What is the muscle car? Objectively when we step back and take a rational look at it; Its just a crude transportation conveyance, with a giant displacement V8 engine that goes relatively quickly in a straight line but corners like a greased up caffeine addicted octopus with all the technical advancements that the late 1960’s and 1970s analog world had to offer and about as safe as fishing with dynamite. But that’s not the point; the essence of a classic car or a muscle car is the sum of its parts and the visceral sensation one gets by merely looking at it and especially driving it. These cars exude a raw, untamed energy that makes them seem capable of conquering anything and transferring that feeling to their driver. Yes, they’re dinosaurs and relics of a bygone era but they still hold a certain allure for those who long for a connection to a time whose cultural artifacts are becoming increasingly scarce and coveted. Are you in the market for an affordable (relativley speaking) classic car? What is your favorite car on our list and are you in the market for one? Let us know in the comments below.

I wish that you guys could do one of these with the 1966 and 1967 Oldsmobile 442 body style along with the other cars of that Era? And what happened to the Oldsmobile Anyway? I was thinking that maybe they were going to make a come back since the camaro and the chargers came out with the engines that put out 700 plus horse power in 2012 and up and the new iconic body styling of the muscle car Era

Thanks for listing the 396 for what it actually was, a 402! I grew up MOPAR late '60s-'70s, my grandpa sold them from 1946-1979 & I have owned many of them & for me the 340, 360 & 383 were always my favorite engine choices! My first car when I was 15 was a candy red with black vinyl top & interior 2dr 1973 Plymouth Fury III 360 4bbl with that fastback style roofline! ✌💖☮

I just plunked down close to 50k for a Black and Gold 1977 Trans-Am. I’ve wanted one ever since I was a kid watching “Smokey and the Bandit” over and over again. It took a long time…but I FINALLY own one!

I remember a friend in high school (back in the mid 80s) who picked up a mint two door 1975 Dart Swinger with a 318 two barrel for $2000 Canadian. The Dart Swinger wasn't a muscle car but it was a nice car originally owned by an old lady with around 20,000 miles. The Dart had enough power to lay some good rubber and it was a nice daily cruiser in small town Saskatchewan. That's all a person needs today. A nice daily cruiser that they can fix themselves and enjoy during summer. A car is meant to be enjoyed, not kept hidden away in a garage.

Seem like pretty good price estimates for purchase. I'm guessing don't expect these prices at auction. 1970 SS Chevelle for 48k seems like a bargain.

Just bought a garnet red, white striped 69 SS Camaro x66 396 4spd car, it gets delivered in 6 days! Bought it in Canada saving almost 25% with the exchange rate.👍 This will replace the 69 350 SS we had to sell for down payment on our home years ago.

When I was about five years old my dad bought a 1969 Super Bee Dodge. I was small enough to stand up in the seat next to him. He had owned racing cars since he was a teenager and he would race anyone who pulled up next to us at a red light. That car would pin me to the back of the seat and when he’d apply the breaks he would reach over and keep me from falling into the dashboard. I’m 58 now and my dad has been gone for several years. But back then there were lots of muscle cars on the road and surprisingly enough guys were all too ready to race the other guy that just happened to have stopped next to them. Strange how you remember certain things from when you were a kid isn’t it ? I guess that Super Bee made an impression on me else I wouldn’t even remember it though. Someone who lives in the next town over owns a Competition Orange one and I’ll see it every few summers but there aren’t many around anymore. His looks like the ones here on this channel. Like he just drove it off the showroom floor.

@@billfunk3168 that’s for sure. I owned a 1979 Trans Am with a 455 Olds in it. Wasn’t the quickest off the line but it also didn’t have a top out speed that I knew of. As long as you’d hold it down it built speed. It only registered 100 on the speedometer but I’d peg it out and throw it in neutral. The hand wouldn’t come off the peg for a couple of miles. I drove one night extremely drunk and I had a buddy with me. He kept egging me on so I floored it going up a gradual incline. I was going so fast we came off the ground and I looked over at him. Behind him I saw out the passenger side window and we were level with the power lines. When we hit the road again I looked in the rear view mirror and saw sparks a couple hundred feet trailing the car. After that I sold the car. I kept thinking how they would have had to put our parts in buckets if I hadn’t landed right. I sold that car soon after that. It kinda scared me when I thought about what we did so I figured it would be best to get rid of it.

The Dodge Dart, Plymouth Duster, Chevy Nova were almost give-away cars back then so it's funny to see them hitting the desired list now. The cool kids at my HS would have a Chevelle or Mustang or Charger and the like. Now the car I would love to have would be a 340 4sp Duster.

I’ve owned my 1970 Mustang Mach 1 for 39 years. It has Fords Superior small block , the 351 Cleveland with factory installed Shaker Scoop Ram Air. Grabber Blue exterior. An AM radio with NO power accessories. Just a powerful Cleveland that kicks ass early and often. I think I might keep it 🤷‍♂️🏁😉🏆

I started my driving career in a 70 Mach 1 but I had a engine exchange. The original Cleveland had a hole where it launched a rod and the guy selling it had a Windsor sitting near it. Found a set of 69 heads ported to a rare FORD aluminum 4 bbl intake. Got a Boss 302 cam, solid lifters, had the heads milled for screw in studs. Put in all together with a 635 holley carb set of headers with cut outs on the side and went out on Woodward in Detroit to play with the real cars. Finally sold that car before I lost my license.

When I was 23, a 23 year-old Camaro came into my driveway, as my Dad was trading a speedboat for it. He was planning on selling the Camaro, but, it was a '74 with June tags, just like me. I convinced myself it was meant to be. However, other Camaro owners laughed at it, and pretty much everyone told me it was the ugliest of Camaros. It was just considered a white trash car that most people drove into the ground, and worth less than 2k. So here we are 26 years, and a few hundred thousand miles, later. I'm a 48 year-old man with a 48 year-old Camaro. Though, no one laughs at it anymore.

I had a chance to buy a buick gs for 3500, it had the minor rust in the common places but had the original 455 it was blue with the black top and black interior and bucket seats. I didn't buy it cuz it had a screw driver holding the throttle cable in place on the carb. If I knew then what I know now I would have bought it. But I ended up buying another 1970 Skylark custom all original with the the protecto plate making me the 2nd owner.

@@SquirminHermanthe1eyedGerman I see them cheap on eBay. Of course it is an auction and could get higher but $2000 might bring one. Plus you have to go get it.... But with all these choices it is best to look at "aftermarket" parts availability. 55-57 Chevy you can get anything. Same with old Thunderbird or Mustang. But MGB/Triumph/Jaguar etc. Moss Motors has Everything down to an original nut or bolt.

Why the hell would you ever want to sell one of those cars? My dad had a huge cammed 351 W ‘69 Mach 1 in silver jade and when he stopped driving at age 86 He drove it into my garage and there she sits on a battery tender looking beautiful as when he first bought her. You don’t sell these masterpieces… you keep ‘em and enjoy them. Then you pass them down like a family heirloom. Just my opinion, of course….

I just want a 70-72 Nova 350/396/402 4 speed, or a 70-72 Cutlass S or SX 350/455 or a Skylark, or a 69-72 Grand Prix, 400/455. Tops would be a 69-72 Chevelle SS, but that's major cash.
