J.J said in an interview that rather have Cloverfield be only tied to the monster, he wants to make an anthology series with Cloverfield in the title each time, so long as this movie does well.

+piplup2009 Yep. What cash grab. If you don't want to make monster movies don't steal the name and mislead people. Even if it's good it's going to confuse and piss off alot of people. It will hurt them alot more for the next one than this one though.

+EccentricSM Wanting to make an anthology sci fi series isn't misleading people, especially if he constantly tells the media it's not what they think it is and specifically says there is no "monster" in this film from the first one.

A lot of people seem to annoyed at the way this movie ends. But I don't agree. The new ending gives us a chance to see Michelle put in yet another situation where the audience is going to be frightened for her safety. Will she die? Will she overcome & outsmart her new protagonist? It's a good ending. And quite honestly, had we been stuck with the original ending, it would have been like getting a double double without the extra meat.

Awesome video and review. These guys are great. =D But at 22:35, he says "If you are a person that is, like, disturbed by the dark side of human nature" as if darkness is scary, evil, or unnatural. But there's no need to be afraid of the dark, and it is not a negative or unnatural thing. I never could understand it why some people do that. =/ This is just a philosophical thought, but if darkness has been around ever since the beginning of everything before anything else, is all around us, and there is even inside of us (I imagine it gets pretty dark inside of our bodies. I don't think we have light bulbs inside of us), isn't darkness one of the most natural and non-evil things out there? =o And night time is actually one of the most peaceful times for most people. It's when we rewind, recharge, and heal. Can't people just say what they mean? Could have easily said "evil" there, you know. l=/
@tabuu98 жыл бұрын
Well darkness is pretty scary because you can barely see the predators
@JazGalaxy8 жыл бұрын
Darkness is a literal lack of information. When something is dark, it's because your eyes aren't receiving any light bouncing off of objects. Therefore darkness is scary because it is unknown. This si why darkness represents ignorance. Ignorance is scary. The only peace that comes from darkness is peace that is found in pushing knowledge away and resting in ignorance. But that is every only termporary, and nothing good ever comes from it.

I think this would have been a much better movie without the Cloverfield title, so that people would go in blind. Because the trailer itself raises enough questions. Like "Is this a dysfunctional family?" And then you start watching and wondering if John's character is just a doomsday freak, or a doomsday freak with a point. As opposed to knowing for a fact that he has a point, just because of the title. So since you're sitting there expecting for the monster to play sick tricks on them, and then have some big reveal like in the first one, the movie trying to trick you into thinking the dude's JUST a psycho, is like ''😏 Ok... Whatever. I'll play along... Now, where's the monster hiding at?''

John Goodman's performance in this flick deserved an acting nomination IMO, he was great in this. Great movie with a rather tacked on ending that they just about made work due to it completing Winstead's character arc. That ending would've been a great finale to another movie with a tone that matched it...it was just jarring in comparison to all that had come before it. Didn't derail the movie for me though, just great stuff.

This felt like a mediocre episode of The Outer Limits with good production value and after watching it you totally understand why they kept this quiet marketing wise I think because of movies like Room or Gone Girl I was underwhelmed, where an early piece of the narrative is expected and then the later piece carries it to an unexpected but good logical direction, I felt this film needed that. This script just really felt warmed over to me.

I liked this movie but not as much as other people seem to. It has a TERRIFIC, CLIMATIC third act and has great twists and turns along with really well done characters. Overall, a good movie and surprising how it connects with the first movie. However, therein lies the problem: which is how the movie doesn't answer enough of the questions I had with the first movie. It was like how many people criticized Prometheus (which I really got and liked). I mean the name Cloverfield still doesn't connect well with the two movies and there are other questions.

It just bugs me that they put "Cloverfield" in the title, and so far it appears this movie (originally titled "The Cellar") has NO CONNECTION to that movie whatsoever. It seems to me they're just using the word to get people into the theaters because they know damn well we all want to see that monster again. I mean, don't get me wrong, it looks like a good movie on its own, but really? Even the trailer that Korey showed is proof enough. "Cloverfield" came up before "10" and "Lane".

it has to do with cloverfield definitely, if you guys did not look up the easter eggs from the first movie, Howard the psycho stated that he dealt with satellites and in the end of the first movie showed a satellite falling down in the background. Howard also showed that satellite signals got shut off, so it does have a connection. He also predicted that they would first take out the military.
@timmadone89308 жыл бұрын
+UnbelievabIeMontages That's not the only connection. At the gas station, there is a big Slusho neon sign. Since that drink was Rob's reason for going to Japan, there is another connection. But it doesn't stop at that. As you probably know, when a nuclear blast occurs , it knocks out power grids for miles around. Just before Michelle gets in the car accident, she hears a person on the radio talking about the sudden catastrophic black out on the Eastern seaboard. That implies that the Hammer-Down Protocol is currently taking place. Remember, the monster we see in the first movie is not the only one that the military is planning to take out. There are MULTIPLE SIGHTINGS of these monsters. As for the satellite, I guess it's safe to assume that the reason it fell into the ocean is because it was knocked out of orbit by one of the spaceships. So now we at least have an explanation for why it crashed into the ocean. LOL
@UnbelievabIeMontages8 жыл бұрын
Tim Madone It could be the alien itself instead of the satellite, or the alien probably gassed the water turning the animals in the ocean into mutated monster looking creatures and then knocked the satellites out of orbit

Sung Ra I agree with you. They could've rode it out in my opinion. Dude was FAR from perfect but the only time he went off was when they were doing something against him. and outside was complete hell. The girl should've kept a sharp object just in case or when he caught them with the tools just say we were making a gas mask as a surprise :D! OR just say hey you're being very creepy could you chill out or dude I know about the girl but as long as you treat me right we're good. I don't know most of the time he was a chill psychopath who's minefield you could easily maneuver. I'll take take over human extinction on top.

***** You're not remembering the movie properly. They distinctly showed that John Goodman's characters went off on the kid at the table for no reason. That was an important scene because it solidified the fact that he wasn't rational and could snap at any moment. Once they had proof that he had killed before, there was no reason to believe that they could ride it out with him.

This movie was alright but that ending ruined the whole film. There is zero pay off to the mystery that was being built up. I don't know why you guys decided to be so nice to this. **spoiler** She had a tougher time killing John Goodman than destroying an alien spaceship😂

+larsattack I saw the ending coming a mile away. Didn't bother me in the least.

It is still a mystery though , since you still don't know what was going on and what happened. And what kind of attack JG was talking about, and what JG did with that girl..

Why does this movie seem boring and exciting at the same time?
@timmadone89308 жыл бұрын
+Alfred Valrie You're right about the second part, it is exciting. But not so much in an action type of way. It's exciting because of the suspense. You just don't know what is going to happen next. But there is a slight pay off at the end for those looking for some action. After all, there is a reason it's on the IMAX screen. LOL
