As someone who already went through the college application process, I agree with everything you said! Personally, I wrote my essay about the time I cut off my hair. I talked about how it made me become more confident and how it helped me find the beauty in being different. Then, I basically showed them how my ability to step out of the norm could be an attribute to their college!

what im planning on writing my common app essay is how learning how to do manis and pedis at 14 influenced me to form a program I run where we do homeless peoples nails for free at my moms nail salon. I worry that my essays will be too cliche 😓

I think your idea is great! I would say maybe in addition to that try to tie in a life lesson you learned from the program or if it relates to a career that you want to do.
