congratulations on your acceptances, you definitely deserved each one!! your essays were great; do you have any more advice on how to pick a topic (for CA essay and sups) and how to make it unique/authentic (even when it's a basic topic)? congrats again on your achievements :)

hm, i think brainstorming is rlly important so like doing different exercises to find what you want to talk about is a good way to pick a topic :)

I’m not applying to colleges yet, probably next year, but I’ve started drafting a few ideas. I’m a competitive dancer and have been dancing for 13 years so far. I want to talk about pieces that’ve inspired me. My favorite genre is tap, which isn’t a very popular opinion, but I absolutely love it! I did my first solo my freshman year, even though it was kind of a in the moment decision trying to get out of my comfort zone. I want to talk about something that’s impacted my life in a positive way, teaching me about commitment, patience, and the importance of learning from failure. Another idea is COVID, which maybe a popular choice, however my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer during that time and how we took extra precautions to make sure she didn’t get more sick. She’s seriously one of the strongest people I know and is thriving now. I don’t know if I want to write about that because having cancer wasn’t my struggle, it was hers. I don’t want to capitalize off of her struggle just because I was there. I don’t have any “trauma” it just happened. If anyone has any suggestions, please say anything! I’m leaning towards more dance than the Covid thing, even though colleges like “struggle” or whatever. I don’t feel comfortable doing that though, even if it gives me a better chance. 😅

hmmm i think that the dancing one might be better than the COVID one because that might be a little more unique since everyone dealt with COVID. (however you are the one writing the essay so you should decide for yourself)

hey there, love your common app essay. Quick question, though, did you also mention the club you were talking about in the essay in your EC’s list? What’s your take on mentioning new activities in your essays that are already not put out there via EC’s list or honors? Was just a little stuck on whether to iterate my main activities in essays and EC’s list or add new ones!

i did mention my club in my ecs list ! its up to you my club was one of my major ecs so i included it in both my ec list and essay i think if its one of your major ecs then you should include it in both

I'm on my last year of high school, I'm honestly so confused, I never gave much thought about universities or anything, I don't have a dream job, school subjects hardly interest me. My school's standards are pretty low, but throughout my school life so far, i get above avg grades. i have participated in a few activities, but none near as serious as yours. i really felt i was missing something, since i went to a college fair today and it dawned on me i was really really behind on this. i can't even begin to think of how i'll even get into one. bc what would i even write in an essay, when i don't have anything to write abt. all the ppl on yt i have seen, wrote something about their school life, what they liked, the stuff they participated in. it seems as though i did so little that i probably couldn't even write a page abt myself. pls help me what do i do..

take some time to breathe. College isn't everything. I don't care about colleges, I just want to study a subject I enjoy. Try to explore what you like, and then maybe try and find a path to pursue. There is no point in running as hard as you can, when you don't know what you are running towards

hihi honestly it feels bad when you constantly compare yourself to others, but always try to work hard :) try brainstorming ideas for your essay and find ideas that showcase who you are as a person !

I kinda don’t understand the point of the classmates trying to steal your lunchbox and your mom was like oh they must be hungry let’s shoulder their parent’s responsibility like I m confused. Might be that I misunderstood what you meant in the essay

hm, i see how you can interpreted it like that but that rlly wasn't my intention I wasn't blaming my classmates parents but rather wanted to show my mom's commitment and sympathy towards my classmates
