When he talks about the differences between the regular and the executive card, he mentions that they "could be" cost free, but he cleverly leaves out the crucial part, that is, you have to spend $6,000 annually for the standard and $12,000 for the executive to be "cost free."

For the regular $60 card shouldn't you just have to spend $60 to break even?
@hottuna75 күн бұрын
@@americafirst9144 If only that were so. The basic card gives you back 1%, executive card 2%. Do the math - 1% of 6,000 is 60. A 1% return means you get back 1 penny for every dollar you spend.

A regular Costco membership is $65 now. According to Costco on-line it doesn't give you any cash back. I figure it takes 2-2 1/2 months for me to pay for my membership card based on what I save vs. shopping elsewhere for the same products. That is how I figure if it is worth it. Seems viable to me.

@@americafirst9144 Thanks for the update. I believe your analysis is correct re viability, which is why I tell people that even if you don't spend enough to cover the extra cost of the executive, what you saved compared to shopping elsewhere should make up whatever difference remains, even if there's a spoilage/toss out factor on unused foods (which so far has never happened to me.)

It seems to me that they make enough money without having to charge a membership fee! I hate paying a fee to shop!!!

Gift cards are not such a great deal. You are charged sales tax when you buy them and again when you use them. Almost half the savings gone!

Not all states charge sales tax.

I would add, shop using a calculator instead of relying on memory & eat till full just before entering store also if your Cash back amount is more than $400. You don't have to go to the store to cash it where You are likely to spend it at the store. Have the amount directly deposited to your bank! 👍🏻 Be wise with credit otherwise the interest you pay will wash out your cash back amount!!

I tried to get my sister on my membership and she had to live at my address to get a card. When she goes with me it all has to be on one ticket and payment from one

Buy your sister a Costco gift card and she can use it without a membership

Costco tightened up on their cards. Too many people were using other people's cards and they are enforcing that second member cards have to be at the same address. This is because Costco's profits come mainly from their membership fees and they were losing out on fees from shoppers who were not valid members. The way around this is to shop with a member or split bulk packages to maximize the savings and decreasing waste. Some perishable goods are better purchased in local stores. Sometimes sales at local stores can beat some Costco prices and even if it costs a little more, you pay less actual dollars especially if you cannot use all of a bulk perishable item or cannot split it with someone else. The Executive membership is better than the gold card because if you buy enough, the cash back savings pay for the membership. Costco keeps rotating stock and moving it around the store, sometimes items get discontinued and won't be back or you find an item you really liked is no longer available.

Apps are made to harvest data more efficiently from customers so they can sell it. Most of the time you don't need to use them.
