I'm an Explorer Scout in Scotland, I tend to go camp blanket, but I have an old style shirt I put some on, I have a safari jacket (army surplus) with some on. I have a canvas rucksack with a few on. I used to have one under my neckie (an English flag badge to annoy one of my leaders) but I took it off for the Blair Atholl jamborette in a couple of weeks so I can pass inspection. I've seen a couple of people with badges in the bottom of their shirt so that it is hidden when tucked into trousers or kilts. When my dad got his Queen's Scout Award he had one on the back of his neckie, because he was the only person from his group their, so he could just say it was his group badge (which are allowed on the group neckie) Edit: One Idea I have had it to put one on my kilt in place of a kilt pin

I get wide velcro from Amazon. My Scouts like to sew the loop side of the velcro to their packs, or glue it to their stuff. Then, we sew the hook side to their patches. Then, they can switch them out whenever they want. Some items, like backpacks or Scout Handbook covers, are "tactical" and already have velcro on them.

I know a scout leader who has Velcro position patches. He even keeps them in a shoulder pocket on his uniform. I tease him that he needs to decrease the positions or eliminate some of them but he just smiles at me. He told me that he just takes it off when he has to be un-scout-like. 🤪 YIS⚜

This was some very cool ideas. I also have the legend patch on the inside back of my OA sash. Having scouted all over the world (20 years of active duty military) the idea of putting old lodge flaps on the inside front is great!!

My wife, an assistant scout master, carries a scout book in a cover which blends in too easily. I've sewn patches on it to make it stand out. In that case, I ordered a few joke patches, sasquatch, Crystal Lake Camp, and spoof merit badges. My daughter drew on hers to make it stand out so she isn't using that space for patches.

I am not sure if you answered this, but I (as a current scout) found and put on my NYLT patch on my right pocket, as instructed in the official manual for uniforms. However, I am not sure if it is a permanent or temporary patch. Are you aware of which it is?

I believe that the NYLT square patch needs to be in the temporary position on the right pocket. Usually, this is during the course. I have noticed that the old 1970s Youth Leadership Training position on the right sleeve below the flag and above the patrol patch has never been revoked. It's not in the current Insignia guide or in any drawings of placement. So one could only assume that this position is still available on the sleeve. You will need to ask the uniform police as the default answer is no. YIS⚜

I love the camp blanket idea! I would like to have seen you mention that the BSA has a rule against putting patches on the BSA jac-shirt (with limited exceptions, such as the large OA or BSA patch). I see many leaders treat the back of their red jac-shirt like a patch vest (which it is not).

The real Jac-Shirt is made of wool and is typically very expensive. I did not consider that scouters would cover it with patches. The typical red Jac-Shirt has specific patches that can be sewn on it like the Philmont Bull. Here in Central Florida, we have a red jacket of cloth that is used by Wood Badge participants and staff. I have a veteran friend who had the lining removed and used an all-silk American flag on the inside. The BSA Jac-Shirt is officially (as of 1952) for uniform wear and to my knowledge has never been replaced. There are many other red scout jackets but there's nothing like the BSA Jac-Shirt. @ScouterStan I own two jac-shirts, the original red and the 2010 centennial green (which sold poorly and was discontinued, replaced by the traditional red). Not sure how to email you a picture.

​@@ScouterStan While the uniform police may object, it seems to be at least regionally popular to put patches on the back of the official jac-shirt. I acquired mine from eBay for about $40 shipped, so they're not all that expensive if you're willing to get a used one. New ones are a bit pricey though. The one I got came with a bunch of 90s-vintage camporee patches from Indiana sewn on the back, that I have since removed.

I need a I hiked the PCT, all of it, patch or whichever trail is the longest. I didn't, but I need it. I have a bazillion (50) old neckerchiefs. Do I turn them into a quilt?
