I got a really creepy text message some years ago. I had been on the bus back from school and had to walk for quite a bit in order to get home. Right after I got inside my house I recieved a new textmessage on my phone. It was from an unknown sender who just wrote "Welcome home." I live in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a forest. None of my neighbours would ever make such a joke (or even have my number), and the number was not registrered to a person.

This is a major problem with kids who grow up on the internet and the line between virtual and real is crossed. They begin to think the people they meet online are actual friends. If you've never met someone in person, you have no idea who they really are. To tell you the truth, even meeting someone in person still doesn't mean you know them. A true friend is someone you've been in close personal contact with for many years. Someone who's proven loyalty and integrity to the friendship. All others don't qualify. Sharing personal information over the internet with an online friend is just an invitation to malicious intent. Sadly, this "sharing" is rampant on facebook, where even older adults are giving out wayyy to much information. I rarely go on facebook, but certain things about me are private, such as my birthday. Someone knows your birthday, it's just one step closer to stealing your identity. Someone knows your name and the city you live in, simple to find your address, if they aren't already broadcasting that as well. Send me tickets to an event and then come rob my house while I'm st said event. This list goes on.
