Outstanding video Tom, bullseye on so many important points you raise that I myself have experienced in my own broadcast studio management career. I’ll be reminding myself of these 10 points as my own multi-cam “video first” podcasting business develops and launches in 2025 in Michigan. Thanks again for meeting up, showing me around your facility. I’ve already acquired/upgraded some new gear, in particular after a long research initiative, the Roland V6 HD audio/video switcher which seemingly combines the best features of the ATEM, Feelworld, Ossee, SprolinkNeo switchers. I’ll let you know how that goes and likely will post about it on The Studio Business site once I join soon :)

Glad to hear it! I hope you can make that switch soon here. It took me a while to work out the kinks and get some solid months going when I had just started. My goal with the channel is to help get people to that point sooner.

What method do you use to deliver video files to the clients?

We do it over google drive! Used to use dropbox.

Great video! As someone who runs a podcast studio, I found it very helpful! You mentioned using the live cut at some point. The Atem mini pro series only records 1080P, have you had any clients complain that it's not 4k? If so, how do you handle it? Also, are you always recording using the ISO feature? I would imagine that the live cut isn't always perfect or if you want a specific edit for a reel, you'd have to go back in and fix it right?

Glad it was helpful! We rarely have anyone ask about 4k vs 1080p. If done right, the 1080p can look great and it's never really been a deal breaker. If you wanted to toss SD cards in the cameras, you could get 4k out of it if you wanted to. When it comes to problems with the live cut, yes, sometimes it can make clipping difficult and obviously the cuts made are permanently there. We always tell people if they want to bring their own drive, we will ISO for free. In reality though, the vast vast majority of people take the live cut and are happy with that.

@@TheStudioBusiness Sweet, I've been hesitant on purchasing the Atem because of the lack of 4k but I think I'll just move forward with that then. I just spend way too much time switch angles in post and think that would be a solid solution. Thank you again!

@@WanchaiChab I work in 1080p and no one has ever complained about it. Of course, I have had clients ask me if I work in 4k, so I created a pricing method. The standard for my work is 1080p and I charge the standard price. But if you want 4k, then the price is different. For non-standard work, I charge non-standard.

Question - do you find it's more helpful to sell individual studio sessions/episodes, or do you think it would be better to provide something like a package of 10 episodes?
@pedrog.darosa6806

You can try both ways. Offer a discount for 10 episodes.

The majority of our clients just book single sessions. We do offer package rates for groupings of 8-12 episodes however. Good idea to offer both!

@@TheStudioBusiness That's really interesting. I feel like, for consistency, it makes more sense to package it. Do most of your clients use you as their weekly space or just one-off recordings? I'm super curious about what option would help clients be more consistent. Thanks for making these videos!

Let me give you some feedback about the community. I think it's pretty rude of me to price someone else's stuff, but $70/month or $744/year is a lot of money, especially for a community that's just starting out and needs engaged members. I'd love to join, but that's money I could really use.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I totally understand where you're coming from. Pricing is always a sensitive topic, and I appreciate your honesty. Our goal with the group is to become value-rich resource for people that are trying to turn this into profitable business venture. So while the monthly fee isn't cheap, we found it appropriate. I understand that it's not as viable for everyone which is why we still continue to post free KZbin videos and publish a weekly newsletter. We also offer a free trail period for those that want to try it out before committing!

Agree, its a bit out of the price range of people starting out.
