10 Dark Academia Outfits & Style Guide

In this video, we explore the Dark Academia Aesthetic! A romanticization of dark, moody university life, dark academia draws influence from media and culture surrounding topics of elitist educational institutions and dreary, bittersweet love tales.
I love this style as it lends itself well to casual wear, workwear and is also pretty modest friendly! I put together this guide in hopes that I could provide insight on how to get started in creating this style with your own wardrobe. I have included 10 different outfits in this video that are easy to recreate with a range of different pieces that I had in my closet!

"Old Money" style can have lighter colors and be more traditional and delicate. I see "Academia Dark" as a Harvard student and buy vintage pants at thrift stores. The "Old Money" is the one who got rich and made rich friends. I loved your videos in both styles.

I absolutely adored outfits 8-10. dark academia is hard to wear during the summer, but during the fall and winter this is basically all I embody lol

What I love about this style as a guy is it's so accessible to both genders, and even to NB, you get the crossover of fairly unisex fashion with the pants and sweater vests. Just today I got a great dark green tweed suit, and I'm planning on using the pants or jacket separately to mix up some different looks. For me my favourite footwear for my dark academia looks is my chocolate suede boots, they're just so comfy and warm in cool weather while also being dressy enough to wear with chinos and wool dress pants, though I do want to get a pair of brown brogues so I can accessorise with some patterned socks more often.

It’s a subculture that questions anything and everything. The style just makes it aesthetically pleasing. You can think of the books: dead poets society, if we were villains, Jekyll and Hyde…

You shouldn't have to wear animal products for fashion statements. There are vegan belts, shoes, and bags. Nobody needs to wear wool or silk. Plenty of cruelty free fabrics that would fit this aesthetic.

Most vegan fabrics are derived from fossil fuels so I wouldn’t call them cruelty free either. Best bet is to shop second hand if this is something that is of concern.

Aren’t most ‘vegan’ items made from materials that are usually used in fast fashion and based on plastics ergo do not biodegrade? Animals products are naturally occurring therefore better for the environment.
