Great work and film Matt. I understand that you are fixing your battens through to the framing and covering the siding joints. But surely there is a way to equal out the battens? Plus your mate smokes way too much!!
@MattBangsWood5 жыл бұрын
On high end homes, we center our framing and our battens and it comes out gorgeous. Low end like this, they don’t want us doing anything but slapping it up unfortunately.

I agree with Tom Penneck - the guy smokes too much !! poor guys who don't smoke have to breath his shitty smoke!!! so much for clean air- I would file a work comp against you for allowing second hand smoke to invade my lungs - bad enough your breathing in all that James Hardie silica dust!!!! I give the smoker 10 years

why do you have to install so many strips. can i do with only placing the strips when the sheets meet. or that would not work. are doing it for the look?
@wskaik14 жыл бұрын
I love the guy picking his nose at 14:39. Real funny, LOL I'm getting to install this in my house and have to also replace the windows at the same time. I am having trouble figuring out what type window (frame) I need to install si it can play well with the siding system. Any light you can shed or some close up pictures you can provide? I love your teams work and thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Pro-tip put a reusable tape pad on your fat max they fit perfectly. have you ever used one? you can write on them and then just wipe it off. they are the best extra that I use and could never want to be on a job site without one. southern Carlson usally has them you could probably order them as well.
@MattBangsWood5 жыл бұрын
I have had one! I love them. Unfortunately I replace tapes left and right, and don’t replace the pads. I need to!
@ryderholywonder58643 жыл бұрын
I just peel the fatmax sticker off. You can write your numbers directly on the plastic underneath and then wipe it off with your thumb. No need for anything else. Give it a try, I’ve been doing it for years.

I’m looking at doing this on my place. Do you worry about drip cap around your window trim or only on trim boards between panels? I notice you trim on top of your smooth board. I also have 1 inch exterior insulation on. Any recommendations on fasteners? I put on an addition on an older place so my exterior studs are all over the place. Do you worry about not hitting every stud for your panels? Thanks for the help!

the very last piece of sheating at 13:10 , how did you find the dimensions , is it as simple as measuring the high point and low point and snapping a line or is there a way to scribe it
@MattBangsWood5 жыл бұрын
With nearly everything we do siding related, or shear panel related.. It's all off of a long and short point number! I don't scribe much unless it's repetitive cuts on the bottom or top of a sheet (1/12 pitch coming off the bottom or top of every sheet).

Hi Matt, I got into Carpentry and Framing after being forced to close my small business at the beginning of the pandemic. I'm really enjoying what I do now and recently got the opportunity to add bord and baton trim to a very swanky pool house in the northeast. I hate to sound like a kiss ass but your videos are an incredible help to a beginner so thanks for what you are doing!! Also, the tools situation is a nightmare for beginners If you have any advice on a brand to stick to for general Framing and Carpentry work that would be very very helpful. It's a minefield for a beginner so I would love to hear from a pro. Best, Lee.

I could pick your video apart - but will not do that because all in all I think your doing a pretty good job. Your camera work is great, your explanation and tutorial works well - but the SMOKERS ????? not cool. I refuse to have second hand smoke on any of my jobs - that includes sub-contractors as well!!! NO ONE and I REPEAT NO ONE smokes on my jobs - Period!! you smoke your not hired, you smoke your FIRED!!! DISCUSTING!!! HABIT - I don't care how fast you are, precise and or friendly - smoking does not belong on these projects. I suppose your crew are also throwing the cigarette butts all over the owners property as well NO> 2 reason one does not smoke on my job, all cigarette smokers think they can just throw them anyplace they want. OK IM done- Matt your a very good carpenter however - you could work or run my job any day of the week , that is unless your a smoker
@MattBangsWood5 жыл бұрын
Haven’t smoked a day in my life. My father and a few employees smoke, never inside a home that’s being lived in / remodeled. We’re strict about where the cigarette butts go, and I complain about them to Fox if I find them on the ground. When it comes to remodeling, or any interior work, we’re strict about no smoking on the property. The builder here, for instance, had employees pounding beers on the job first day we showed up.. It was a joke. We aren’t perfect, but we’re definitely well above the competition.
@MattBangsWood5 жыл бұрын
