It's especially hard not to get cluttered as you get older. I am a born "collector" and always prefer lovely and interesting COHESIVE GROUPS of objects, but I turn 60 next month and have been amassing various collections since my teens. It's really time to start letting go of some the wonderful objects that are starting to overpopulate the visual aspects of my home.

Another terrific thought provoking video, TY! A personal note.. I work with Home Care and Hospice, visiting people in their home for professional care. Scent, as mentioned at the end of your video can be a real problem for some people! Firstly, allergies/sensitivities, I have left homes with a headache due to scented products and carried it on my clothes the rest of the day. Second, those living in a house get acclimated to a scent and tend to make it stronger over time so they can smell it… and it’s like walking into a wall when a visitor steps in… yuck. Third, many fragrance oils (vs essential oils) have dangerous chemical in them to one’s health. Good old fresh air, or natural citrus can be tolerated much better. Just my opinion!! 🌻
@kestiameshad2 ай бұрын
Agree... I love a good scent too especially in hotels and spas but for home, it's a bit more of a concern. I have cats, and I'm worried about what these will do to them too.

My biggest tips, get genuine hardwood floors. No LVP. You can find affordable hardwood options. Just wait, look for sales and save up. Same with hardware, use genuine brass or other quality metals. These two things get a lot of wear and buying quality makes a big difference. Oh and big artwork! A gigantic, unique art piece can really make a room shine.

Good suggestions, though I would not look to a high-end hotel for inspiration because it still looks "hotelish" and a hotel can afford to stay on trend with frequent renovations. I'd rather be less on trend so the look lasts a while. For example, flat black fixtures look good now, but in a few years, they will be dated.

I think it's a matter of perspective. Yes, if you have a really small budget, not all of these tips will be suitable for you. That's an unfortunate reality, if you have to go for the cheapest option every time, a chandelier may not be an option for you, but second hand decor made out of natural materials - can. The budget for finishing and furnishing an interior can expand to almost no end, there is no limit. And I think these tips are great for people who have a little room in their budget - he offers some options for where you can spend that budget for the best effect. "On a budget" does not always mean "on the smallest possible budget".
