Great tips! 1 add-on.... Take a new guy with you , expose someone new to this sport so we can keep this sport alive. Not all of us had Dads or Grandpas teach us this stuff so I feel its up to us to pass this joy along, every new hunter supports all of us and the companies that make our gear. Sure we all have said " damn there's to many guys out here" but we all had that FIRST HUNT!!
@nickog35 жыл бұрын
I like that you mention you’re self taught because that’s exactly how I am right now. This is only my second year hunting. I picked it up myself because my dad or grandpa never hunt, only fish. So your videos with tips and advice are awesome for me and I hope I can spread this info to someone else down the line who are in our shoes

Biggest tip I have from years of dove hunting is to have a cooler for the doves. Like you said, it’s 90deg plus. You don’t want your birds stuffed in a game bag getting hot sitting in the heat until you get done shooting. After you shoot a few toss them in your ice chest. Of course follow game regulations on tagging and possession. Even better is to quickly breast them out and pop them in there. It makes the meat so much better if you cool them off asap. I usually have an ice chest in back of side by side. With drinks in it and a grocery sack or two for the doves. I’ve used a separate small ice chest with a frozen 2 liter bottle in it as well. Number 2 is motion. When mojo doves came out I thought what a marketing scheme. But I broke down and bought one. Took it to public field and it worked! They would come straight to me from far away. Now I use a few and flock flickers on the ground. Sometimes it really helps to get them to veer towards you and not your buddy a few hundred yards away!

Pick up birds as you kill them.....doves are small and hard to find in a field and all sunflowers look the same. If you have a dog, even better.
@titofrost9585 жыл бұрын
yea that why ill only shoot one at a time if they are in a hard to find field, almost impossible to mark two unless you want to waste a bunch of time looking for your second one.

You mentioned dirt piles, ive had luck around giant ant hills pecking at the small rocks. And at the silage pits before they cover them. And definitely dont be shy to use decoys I use the mojo dove flappers and flickers withbrhe dove tree and I bag out in an hour

My two biggest things I notice on opening day is spacing between hunters. I like to have 35-40yards between me and the people on each side. That way we can cover the 20yds each way but not be right on top of each other. Also know where the other hunters are at especially on the other side of the field so you are not peppering someone on the other side of field. I follow the sky behind the barrel rule and it is the best method to prevent the peppering I found.

You need to get out and do some pigeon hunting in the summer. It tuned us in for upcoming dove season and as you said it’s an awesome time with friends. Dove decoys a couple duck mojos and your golden we had an absolute blast this summer

Great video as always but just to point out on number 8 when you recommend bringing alot of shells just remember if you are hunting public dove fields at least in the state of south Carolina there is a 50 shell limit per person. Always check local laws before going out opening day. Keep up the great content

Your first tip happened to me I shot a bird, straight at me 11 year old kid with a brand new Beretta over and under shot in my direction if I didn't hit the ground the shot would have hit me square in the face and probably be dead. Let's just say 5 game wardens with their lights on came flying up the field took both of them away banned them from the Wildlife Management Area i hunt on. Very scary

Another great video mate, nice work. Cheers for sharing what you have learnt and encouraging others to do so also, it helps a waterfoul/bird newbie like me a lot. I have the interest but none of my mates or anyone I know can show me how to do it properly. I love it when I come across someone that is willing to pass on a few tips to help me get started out, it is always greatly appreciated. Even though we are hunting half a world away from each other, a lot of the information and tips in your videos works the same or similar here in Australia (which is great for me). Cheers 😎👍👌👏👏👏

@deadsniper10235 жыл бұрын
Biggest thing I could add to this is find the natural funnel point in the field. Where the birds enter to where they go. 90% of the time, the birds will have a roost tree which they fly from and they'll make a somewhat consistent route through the field(until someone turns them into a feather duster). BE THE FIRST SHOOTER ON THE FUNNEL. If you're the last of 5 guys to be taking a shot every time, you're gonna have a rough day.

A four pack isn't 20-25....because honestly you wanna being hi brass heavy shot...preferably 1 1/4 ounce 7.5-8 that way you can shoot much farther if need be. Swing through the bird at distance... depending on distance sometimes leading the bird up to six feet
