@yatrigan.bharat5 жыл бұрын
Here are 5 facts about this video: 1) Stretching something out just for the sake of it, without any worthy materials is a very poor editing choice. This video could have easily been under 5 minutes. 2) The tips mentioned here don't deserve to be called hacks. Please check the definition of that word. Giving useless, common sense tips, which every driver already knows doesn't qualify to be called 'hacks'. 3) Turning off the AC doesn't save 15% of fuel, but far less than that in modern day cars. Moreover, cooling a car isn't a luxury, but a necessity. A hot car will most certainly have a tired and fatigued driver, which is a big safety issue. Hence we either drive with the windows down, or with the AC turned on. Either ways we'll burn a little extra fuel. 4) Unless you're driving on standing water, with a depth of more than 2 or 3 mm, the drag caused by the fluid displacement will result in a very negligible amount of extra fuel burn. Drag caused by normal rainfall, is therefore negligible in terms of affecting fuel efficiency, as most public roads disperse the rainwater fairly well. Moreover, unless we are going on a joy ride, we can't really choose the time we drive out, can we? 5) Don't make a video just for the sake of it.

@@Rhaman68 Speed is NOT the cause of most accidents. Speed is falsely attributed to many accidents when other factors such as distraction, fatigue, poor road design are responsible. Also, "speed" is blamed for the accident in many instances when the vehicle was not even breaking the limit at the time. As for 50 in a 70 causing accidents, it happens many times when the difference in speed between vehicles causes bunching of vehicles or sudden braking.

Actually, driving in town with the air conditioning on does use more gas. But driving at highway speeds with the air off and windows open causes the air coming into your car to be trapped by the rear window and the engine has to work harder. Driving at highway speeds with windows closed and air on makes the car more aerodynamic and helps it to use a little less gas. In my car driving at highway speeds with the air on only makes a difference of 1 mile per gallon. Not a big deal breaker.

Okay, problem with the way you talked about air conditioning. It uses a lot of fuel not because it puts a heavy electric load on the alternator and then thus the engine, but because its compressor/condenser is mechanically driven itself! When you turn it on that engages a clutch that locks the compressor's drive shaft to the pulley over it that's being spun by the engine. So it puts an extra direct mechanical load on the engine.

Running the A/C: My mechanic says that cars have become much more efficient in the past few decades. If you are on the highway, you engine has enough power that it doesn't cost much, if at all, to run your air conditioner's motor. In the city is a different story, where your engine has to 'rev' up to have enough power to run the a/c. But on the highway, it really doesn't cost you any gas mileage to speak of.
@shwt1216 жыл бұрын
Alan Jezusko - you are absolutely right.......maybe 35-40 years ago the stress of an a/c compresser on an engine was about a 2-3mpg difference......since then the technology has managed to keep up with the modern engines diagnostics to the point that you cannot even feel the difference in the running of a cars engine when the a/c is turned on.
@eriklehnsherr57846 жыл бұрын
Alan Jezusko Not to mention your cutting down on wind resistance when your windows are up on the highway. It actually helps to use AC in my truck.

It doesn't cost much more on newer cars to run your a/c, but once you hit 40mph with all your windows down that causes drag and that in turn causes your engine to spend more gas fighting that drag.

Additional hack to save gas: Press your foot down on the accelerator and the brake like you have an egg between your foot and the pedal. If you "stomp" on either ("put your foot to the floor") the egg will break - you are going to get worse gas mileage. You should push you foot down slowly on the accelerator, but firmly and steadily - you will not break the egg and your engine will receive enough gas to perform at peak efficiency. The same with the brake pedal. If you have to stomp on the break for a stop that you know you have to do - breaking the egg - you have wasted gas getting up to, and maintaining speed, for longer than you needed to. Ease up on the gas pedal earlier and let the inertia you've already built up (it's free!!) take you to the point where you need to apply the brake. Apply it earlier as you begin to slow, and with gradual increase of force rather than performing a stop that tests your seat belts. Believe me, this works. I have a 94 Camaro with a V8 so I have to save gas any time I can. That way I can "light it up" when I really feel like it....

At night look for cars, not lights. People do not drive with headlights on at all times. Do not drive in peoples blind spots. Accelerate slowly and try not to apply brakes. That saves fuel too. Manual transmissions can help keep people safe but it doesn't mean you should go out and buy one to be a little safer. Use turn signals even when nobody is around. Learn to predict peoples actions, I cannot teach you how to do this, you need to learn it on your own. You'll eventually learn to predict when someone is going to pull out in front of you or if they're going to yield properly. Maintain your vehicle and check it's fluids and brakes often. Just because your car's brakes work at the beginning of your trip does not mean they'll still be working at the end of it. That Maintenance goes for all parts of the car, wipers should be new, tires, suspension components. Brakes don't help if your car's wheels are not pointed down the road or if the wheel falls of or a tire explodes. Drive with traffic in cities, you wont save time by going faster, it's only going to use more fuel and make you less safe. Most of these people's videos are not very accurate and i basically just gave you all the pointers you'll need.

I've used cruise control so often and for so long I've taught myself tips and tricks on how to use it safely even in moderate traffic. It's almost like using your hand rather than your foot to accelerate and decelerate. My parents started me using cruise control in the early 1960s.

In many modern cars the cruise control breaks the car if the car in front is driving slower then you have put it on. So if you have it on 70 mph but the car in front of you is doing 60 mph the car will adapt and do 60 as well and keep a certain distance. It's great when driving in rush hour or in the city.

One important thing dont drive on N gear while go downhill just be on right gear and dont touch the gas pedal when driving downhill on N gear the gravity make the engine goes hardwork and try to stop your car this process make your engine use more gas then just dont use the gas pedal. I drive honda jazz 2004 and when i use this technique i save 300 gram gas on every 1 to 2 km. Another technique you need to use is to downshifting on around 1000-1500 revs on the engine. With these two techniques you can travel 30-40 km more with the same amount of gas.

the less weight thing is a trade off. Less weight means easier acceleration therefore saving gas, but more effort when moving to keep the car moving because of wind resistance. like comparing rolling a bowling ball vs a ping pong ball. the bowling ball, because its heavier, plows through the air longer. So adding weight to a car can save fuel when moving for long periods of time. So generally its based where you live I guess. In the city, have less weight, for those that travel or need to drive long distances all the time, have more weight.

I've been in 4 accidents while STOPPED. 2 times hit at a red light after stopped, 1 time in traffic and someone exited an apartment complex parking lot and simply ran into the rear quarter panel, and 1 time a guy backed into me while I was in line for gas! I speed all the time and haven't had any accidents while speeding. Situational awareness. There isn't much you can do while sitting at a stoplight but there is when you're cruising along at 75 mph down the interstate. Also, I get about 16 mpg in city in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I get 16 whether I jack rabbit start or not, use A/C or not, speed or not. I get about 20 on highway trips. I'll pay the alleged 15% difference and use A/C...which is negated when you roll the windows down and create excessive drag on the highway. If you want to drive slow and waste 20-30 minutes per day at stop lights, go right on ahead, I prefer not to. If I followed all these suggestions apparently I'd double my mileage. Well, the 2011 WK2 Overland doesn't get 32 mpg. Ever. Also, since I violate every one of these suggestions, I should be getting about 6 mpg. Well, I've gotten 15.4mpg on some trips, but not 6.

What about when you cruise up to speed, release foot off accelerator then gently reapply like touching an egg shell with your foot to hold speed. I think this was an old RAC tip and gives super economy but works better on flat straight roads.

Cruise control is not better for fuel econemy. What cruise control does is accelerate and brakes to keep the speed at the limit selected. By driving without it you can coast a bit a prepare for changes in traffic and roads, and as thus keep the fuel cost lower.

Ha 50 MPH that's funny, I do 80-90 on the interstate in Montana. And speed decreases the likelihood of an accident because at faster speeds, your brain goes into overdrive and you focus more, this is why the autobahn in Germany, which has no speed limits, has far fewer accidents than in the U.S. However the chances of more severe injuries in the event of a wreck increase at higher speeds. Also cruise control wastes fuel, not on straight aways but it will try to stay the set speed going up hills and mountains, roads are not perfectly flat, if you have a hill, CC will keep your car at the same speed on both sides, if you do it manually, you can sacrifice some speed going up to conserve fuel and make up the speed coming down without using much fuel.
@kennethhymering6775 жыл бұрын
Just a note: Fewer accidents on the Autobahn has nothing to do with the brain working more or better at high speeds. Actually, the average human brain is not meant to keep up at any speeds over 35 mph! Driving faster requires a lot of concentration and actually overtaxes our brains. The difference is that getting a driver's license in Germany is way harder than here in Canada or the US. Also, you need to be 18 to get a license in Europe. Generally, the drivers are just better suited for the task. And to be complete, you are correct that there is no official speed limit on the autobahn in Germany. However, there is a speed advisory of 130 kmh. If you drive faster, and you cause an accident, you forfeit your insurance! So in a way, it's speeding at your own risk! Hence the need for good education for driving in Germany.

Way down South, I use the AC during Spring from huge pollen problems. We have gardenia plants outside. Never up North. Spring and Summer it's HOT. Fall is Hot. Winter 3 years after moving to North Carolina we were working so hard we hadn't been to the beach we walk out of our house first week of December to go to church and we look at each other and say wow we have to go to the beach it's 85 degrees so it took us an hour and a half to get there we were so excited we never really believed the water would be warm,we could have gone swimming easily. Then, we have weather that bounces around. I don't think I want to sweat in my car. AC is more important than saving money to me.

These aren't hacks or accurate: Don't put the pedal to the metal - Putting your foot down to reach the appropriate road speed in the modern car actually saves fuel. Use cruise control on the highway - Wrong! The human being is far more adaptive than a computer which follows an instruction to maintain a set speed. Undergo Servicing on time - Technically true but not absolutely essential. Turn off the air conditioning - Only applies to smaller cars with air con fitted. Air con uses between 1.5 and 3 horse power so the higher your horse power the less effect it has. Make your route logistically efficient - With high volume traffic the shorter route can be more fuel inefficent than the long route if on the longer route you can maintain a speed. Short route are usually full of stop and go's such as junctions and traffic lights. Don't drive when it rains - This one makes no sense at ll. Monitor your tire pressure - Again technically true but the higher pressure will reduce road resistance through less traction but also decreases braking efficiency, Remove unnecessary weight - Less junk food ;) Keep an eye on gas prices - Yeah because we all have control over them! Always stay alert on the road - Well dur! Picking your nose and contemplating your naval while driving is how collisions happen. This vid is not only inaccurate but is also patronising.
@kennethhymering6775 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but on a highway, under normal circumstances, you simply can not compete with cruise control! Only exceptions would be when there is lots of height difference, or even sometimes in very windy conditions. Cruise control is underused and underappreciated. Generally, people just are not able to drive at a constant speed. It is a great annoyance on the road! Also, AC always impacts fuel efficiency! I don't know where you got your info, but Ac can use up to 10!!! HP. Technically you are right, that the more powerful the engine, the smaller the effect. But there are sportscars with lots of power, that still automatically shut off the AC when full power acceleration is required! That should tell you, AC does use power from the engine, no matter how powerful the engine is! All in all I do agree with you however! These are not "hacks". Most are just common sense. and yes, that makes this vid patronizing indeed!
