What to Do When Someone's Following You in a Car

Another long workday. Finally, you get in the car, turn on your favorite song, and start driving home. That’s when you notice something weird in the rear-view mirror. “Is that guy following me?” You slow down - maybe they’ll pass. Nope. You speed up - they stay on you. What to do if you suspect someone is tailing you in a car?
Well, before you get too nervous or annoyed, confirm that you are indeed being followed. The easiest way is to make 3 right turns around the block. Why would someone drive aimlessly around the same buildings? If you’re on the freeway, take the next upcoming exit. But instead of getting off, get right back on the freeway. If the car does the same, it’s probably tailing you. And if you've confirmed you are being followed, here's what you should do.

This has happened to me, me and my brother were in the car driving home from a sleep over at my cousins. We were driving down a road surrounded by woods. There was a woman, following our car, and since we noticed she was following us, I told my brother to drive around some more instead of heading straight home. And we eventually lost her, and my brother was shaken up when we got home, and I ask him what’s wrong, and he says that he saw the woman pull out a 44-magnum and pointed it at our car every time we had looked in the mirror. That was by far the scariest moment of my life.

Bright Side helped SO MUCH. I watched a video on what do to if someone is following you a couple months ago. A month later, someone started following me. I remembered the video, and did the steps to confirm that they were following me. I confirmed that they indeed were following me. I dropped my grocery bags, and started running. I went into a coffee shop and ordered something. I remembered that I should also go into the bathroom for 5-10 minutes, then see if they were still waiting. They were. I yawned, and the person following me (in this case, it was a man) yawned also. Thankfully, I got in my car and drove to the nearest airport. I grabbed some bags in my backseat, and pretended like I was going to board a plane. Then, I lost him. It was also 10 at night. Please, do anything you can to reduce the chance of this happening to you.

I was in my early 20's when a man followed me for 20 miles and blocked me each time I tried to get in the exit lane. I slowed for awhile, and he did the same. Then I gunned it hard, got in front of him and exited. He followed me. At the first stoplight, he was still there, I didn't look at him, I just waited for the cars to clear, ran a red light and made an illegal turn onto another ramp and lost him. I was actually hoping a police car would stop me, but none were around. Cops in the state I live in are pretty useless for the most part.

It's also safer to drive in heavy traffic. If you know you're being followed, drive through a traffic jam, the predator won't try anything if there are a buttload of witnesses around. Never drive on an empty street at night even if you know it's the fastest or shortest way home. Better late than never.

Here's how to get out of this situation: 1. get on a highway and go 240+ km and drive in between cars and weave through traffic, very risky but very much worth it, chances are they won't have the skills to weave in and out of traffic on a highway... neither will you. 2. accelerate and come to a full stop to hit your pursuer if you're lucky you'll hit the bumper that stops the wheel.

This happened to me in a family trip with my cousin,it was afternoon and we were near our destination.. my uncle didn't notice he kept driving and afterwards me and my cousin decided to agree that the car was following us,I told them to not stop to the destination and they thought me and my cousin were joking so 1 hour later we told to stop at a gasoline station so we pretend to buy stuff and go to the bathroom .. the guy was near the exit of the store so I ran to the car with my cousin,I told them that he was following us so they believed us they went to a police station and since we were many we can get out. This happened to me and my friends. We called the police and he went to jail. Turns out he was wanted in 7 States for Multiple offenses. Edit: You forgot something, run a red light and or speed. That will get the police's attention and they might pull you over, sure you might get a ticket but at least you got away from them.

Oh man I've been having anxiety for like a year and a half, and one of my biggest "anxiety" fears is that I'm being followed. Always in a car I think someone is following me, or in public places. And yes I was five weeks in a hospital just before 2020, and they said to try to be more in public places to decrease the amount of fear. But now since we are in quarantine, we can't go outside or to public places so my anxiety is just getting bigger and bigger. Even scared to meet my classmates and teacher. Even talking with them in the phone scares me.
