Here's a fun easter egg that WoTC didn't seem to notice: Magic players actually enjoy playing with Mystery Booster, not just hearing about how good it is. Hope there's a retail version soon (and one that is well supported for LGS/not just included in the soon-to-be-scalped Convention in a Box)

Do you know Gavin that many Magic fans don’t live in the US and don’t have the chance to attend to a convention? For many of us buying a secret lair is an impossibility as well, because of the taxes or the logistic. How it is posible that everytime you come with a good idea you need to screw it somehow, it’s unbelievable.

Hi Gavin ! While i'm still excited by Mystery Booster 2, there is something that bugs me about the release of the product. And while this is a thing that is not of your responsability, I wanted so share my thoughts with you. For me, the problem with Mystery Booster 2 isn't that is a convention only product or the sale on Secret Lair's Website. The problem with Mystery Booster 2 is there are less conventions than before. You see, when Mystery Booster opens in MagicFest Richmond, even if I can't be there (I'm french for your information), I know I have to wait several weeks, goes to MagicFest Brussels, and finally can play with MB 1. Obviously, Covid & pandemics weren't scheduled, but even so, we had a clear way of knowing when we can play MB1. With MB2, if I miss the festival in a box (cause I can't be in Las Vegas), I don't know when I will play with the cards. For better or worse, Wizards choose to focalise attention on local game stores & Commander. A choice with advantages and drawbacks, and MB2 illustrates one of the drawbacks, that between tournaments at LGS and RCQ, there aren't many events where we can play, and lesser events where we can play MB 2. While I don't have a realistic solution to bring back the same pace of conventions that we had before the pandemic (return of Magic Fests or Grand Prix, multi-games events...), I wanted to talk about this issue, cause it's bug me, and several others players. Not the majority, for sure, but several enfranchised ones. And MB2 is for enfranchised players. Thanks for reading my little rant. Also, can I ask you for an article listing the future events where we can play MB 2 ? i think a lot of people will appreciate that. Thanks again

I never played the Dreamcast Magic game, but it is the reason that I started playing Magic again, oddly enough. In the early 2000s I was a Dreamcast evangelist, trying to talk my friends into buying them over the more expensive and harder-to-find PS2s. I heard about the DC M:tG game, and how it wasn't getting a US release, and a couple of my friends and I were like, "Oh, yeah, Magic, that game we used to play in the school lunchroom. I wonder how that's going?" I saw Mirrodin and I was hooked again. It really is a terrible irony that, like that Dreamcast game, I'll never get to play with this product.

Man, the Bolshak Dragon reference hit me really deep. That card was so iconic. And it would always hit Holy Awe in my brother's shields, tapping all my creatures and letting him win next turn. Every single time.

From a design and play experience perspective, I genuinely think this set is awesome. I think people don't credit you enough for that so i wanted to remind you and everyone else. Nonetheless do i really really hope that i will also be able to play a mystery booster 2 draft somewhere in the future, but now i do not have the money or time to go to a convention or buy a festival in a box. It is really sad because when i saw your video anouncing it i got really hypet and excited. Maybe WotC can print the set in retail as a christmass holiday gift to the community? I'm just freestyling ideas here but i just wanted you to know my concerns but also not just be negative, I feel like everyone is just negative because the want to experience MB2 as much as i do.

Exactly. This is the set I've been the most excited for in a LONG time. It seems like it would be an amazing draft experience with my friends as a long time Magic fan. Feels like a slap in the face that we won't be able to participate. For a company that loves nickel and diming their player base, it's so weird that they wouldn't release a highly desirable product. Unlike Assassin's Creed...

The Future Sight framed cards featuring the artwork from the old Vanguard cards from the Tempest/Stronghold days of Magic was the coolest thing I noticed when I saw spoilers of the set being revealed!

First off, these sets are the pure distilled essence of what MtG should be in my book. Just curious design ideas, unshackled and unburdened from the "needs" of the set, full of clever and fun throwbacks. The current mass produced stuff feel soulless and too formulaic, like a fast food burger vs a home made one. So thank you for giving us a breath of fresh air among so many "factory gray" content. One thing I noticed is how you can do all sorts of wacky and colored stuff side by side for your borders when you wanted to, so why don't you just simply use silver border for un-cards? You can print all sort of stuff on borders except silver color? Acorn stuff is probably the worst way to handle the un-cards, Gavin can you please talk about this to whoever responsible please? I'm so glad there are still people in R&D who are willing to push the limits of MtG in a way true to its essence, truly appreciated!

The greatest Easter egg would be anyone who doesn't have shitloads of disposable income and free time being able to ever touch it. Be honest, you know for a fact that 90% of us will never get to touch this and almost all of the boxes will be snagged by bots. But that apparently doesn't matter, because y'all are getting the money no matter if it's scalpers or actual human beings getting them. Seriously, stop all the Mystery Booster stuff and any Secret Lair stuff until actual meaningful changes are made, because otherwise it just comes across as gleefully rubbing salt in our collective wounds.

I actually learned to play Magic shortly after moving to Japan a decade ago. I happened to randomly see a copy of the Dreamcast game in a shop not long after. I took a photo to show the friend who taught me how to play. Sadly at the time I didn't have a Japanese Dreamcast to play it on, so I didn't pick it up. I do now. Maybe if I see it again somewhere I will grab a copy. Or buy it on Mericari.

I'm actually playing through the Dreamcast game rn. The first opponent I fought dropped a Millstone followed by a second Millstone followed by a Winter Orb, and then didn't tap either stone the entire game. 10/10 format👍

With this, and MB1, I think you have crafted the best Un sets ever made. Please do a wider paper release. I know players complain about too many oaper releases, but this is a product that we want.

As much as Mystery Booster 2 will be as amazing, if not more, than Mystery Booster (1), it’s a shame I will not be able to personally enjoy this product. No matter how deep the cuts are, I will most likely never be able to touch a single card printed from this set unless I purchase it through the secondary market at an extreme mark-up. I’m a family of 2 teachers supporting our 1 child in current year 2024 and do not have expendable income to travel across country or even across the globe to not just attend a MagicCon but also to be in that city for a weekend. Please be considerate of your player base and let this product be sold in stores across the world. Let the game stores benefit from the products you make and don’t just sell this at an over costed price on the internet with a small finite amount that will be bought out immediately by scalpers.

I was hoping for a print of Velukan Dragon as soon as I saw the Dreamcast angel in the Secret Lair Angel EDH deck. Glad to see it finally coming into paper. I'll be able to replace my proxy version in my Ur-Dragon deck with a real one.

I love me some "Spawning Pit!" I always thought that if I ever won a Magic Invitational and was allowed to design a card, I would take one for the "Spawning Pit" team and create a creature that created Spawn tokens so Wizards would have to finally print an official token.

First let me say, thank you for Magus of the Chains (and I hate you because it's not a real card). But, while it definitely seems like a cool set, it's hard to care when it's a convention exclusive and no, Festival in a Box isn't good enough. There should be a retail release.

I think there was an opportunity (and I’m not sure if there was a legal reason or just because you didn’t think of it) to use the UDON MTGO vanguard arts for cards in the future sight frame. There’s art that I would have loved in that frame (necropotence, platinum angel, stuffy doll, reaper king, Heartwood Storyteller, figure of destiny ect) that has amazing art and mechanically would work so well in that frame. Maybe MB3?

Bolshack Dragon should've been an MDFC with it's backside being a land OR, even better, framed as a "flip card" that worked as an MDFC with it's lower side being a land!

First of all, Duel Masters, it was my small town's favorite card game for a good long time. We still talk about how it is not Japanese only and just wish it'd one day come back to the US to play it again, even after all this time... Sigh...
