Hello dear Mrs. Leila! Your today's lesson was so interesting and thoughtful as always. You know the proverb about "a gift horse" almost literally coinsides with Russian one. Here it is: "Дарёному коню в зубы не смотрят" (daryonomu konyu v zuby ne smotryat). In English it is something like "They do not look at a given horse's teeth". For me it turned out a pleasant and funny fact at the same time. Don't you agree with me? I was incredibly glad to see and talk to you again, Mrs. Leila! Good buy. Greetings from Russia!

Great lesson! Others that I like using: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder or One man's meat is another man's poison. Variety is the spice of life. Every cloud has a silver lining. It takes two to tango. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. An apple doesn't fall far from the tree. An apple a day keeps the doctor at bay. Et cetera Once again, your video was second to none! Nice to see you to see you nice :-)

So charming with your British accent. Just in case anyone was wondering, these are all commonly used in the US as well. Here's one I love, but seldom hear; it seems to come from the midwestern US: "You can get used to hanging if you hang long enough."" It expresses a grudging patience with unpleasant circumstances one is not able to change, with reference to the lynchings that were a part of vigilante justice in frontier days. Example: "Do I really have to put up with that child's whining all summer long? Well, I suppose you can get used to hanging if you hang long enough."

#3 - "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" is also an idiom! Strange sounding, but what it means is that you can ascertain the health of a horse by examining its teeth... but, if someone gives you a horse for free, you shouldn't be too concerned with how healthy it is.

@Davgil Hi, Davgil. How're you doing with the lockdown? Here, as you know, we've passed it last year for three months. But one can already see the light at the end of the tunnel. I really appreciate all the information you have sent me. I already knew the part related to mythology. Yes, in Spanish we say "Salir de la sartén para, etc". Do you speak Spanish too? And there is another expression with the same meaning: "Pasar de Guatemala a Guatepeor". And the simplest one "Ir de mal en peor". I thank you for the French phonetic transcription; fortunately, I think I have a pretty good French pronunciation because I learnt it when I was a child and I have studied and practised it for quite a few years. Besides, in my school, there was a French literature subject. I'm a big admirer of the French culture. Yet, now, it's my turn to learn English. Have a great day or as close to a great day as you can have in these difficult times!

Nothing ventured, nothing gained . Out of the frying pan and into the fire. Don’t look a gift horse into the month You can lead a horse to water , but you can’t make it drink You can cross that bridge when you come to it. It was the last straw that broke the camel's back. Where there is a will there's a way. Better late than never. Beggars can’t be choosers. Actions speak louder than words.

For third one..dont judge the intention by the price of the gift..it means appreciate the intention behind the gift and not the price of the gift..its origin is based from the older times when people before buying a horse look into the mouth to determine their age by receding gum..as you grow older gum lines recedes so to make a deal by its age..another idiom for this is growing long at the tooth..means growing old..
