That whole thing seems to be a KZbin joke. I went into my local music store a couple years ago to get some strings, and asked the owner of the store about it. It is a mom and pop business. He said he had no problem with it. He handed me an Ibanez acoustic 6 string and I played it for maybe 10 minutes. The world didn't end.

Heard this today. Now I know why I got my own 1975 Guild F-512 string guitar before I even graduated from college in 1976. It is still the best sounding 12 string guitar on the market! Still have it and it sound just as dynamic as the one Jon is playing here.

For me, the world of KZbin is happiness, tears and love. There is silence at the cafe window on Wednesday morning, but when I habitually turn on KZbin in the flow, I accidentally come into your video and enjoy it in the videos unfolded by the algorithm. It must not have been easy, but you have great enthusiasm. It will be difficult for anyone to understand all of your hard work in video production unless you try it yourself. like everything else You are never alone because there are subscribers like me who are begging for your videos at this time. Do you know how dazzlingly valuable and beautiful your KZbin life is? The most wonderful person is Baro, who put all his heart, effort, and hard work into making this video. Please make more good videos of you in the future. Everyone in the world lives the same. I was on KZbin a little earlier and a little late, so I think it's just the difference I haven't shown yet. I wish you success as much as you have worked hard for your dream, and at the same time, I would like to give you praise and support with all my heart and sincerity as your channel gradually develops into a very large channel.

It's hard to beat a Guild 12-string! I've got 2 of them, an F512 made in 1979, and a D-20-12 made in 1980. And a Maton made in 1971 that sounds like God playing the guitar! Nice work, nice playing, some good choices of songs, and at least the guitar is in tune - unlike some of the others who have posted on here!! And that comes from a guy who's been playing 12-strings for 55 years.

@allansbullet4 жыл бұрын
@@jonmaclennan If you want to see how a REALLY beaten up one sounds, look on here for John Butler playing a piece called "Ocean" in his studio at home. It will blow your mind, and he really gives it hell!! My Maton is in perfect condition, and I've had it since 1974, mind you there's a hell of a story behind it as well. It was stolen by members of a motorcycle gang who burgled my home in 1980, and I got it back after it was found on a beach here in New Zealand after two and a half years. It was fucked, to say the least. It was repaired but I was never happy with it, and finally I got a local luthier, Davy Stuart, to fix it all up - it took him over two years, waiting for exactly the right piece of spruce for the top!! Look him up at stuart.co.nz - he's amazing to say the least and he exports his instruments all over the world!! Ever since he fixed it it sounds like God playing the guitar, and I've even had Tommy Emmanuel say it's the best sounding 12-string he's ever heard!!

Hey Jon. Looks like you and I had the same idea a few weeks apart. I did 8 in mine. Anyway, I just came upon this and I really enjoyed your playing. It's funny, you didn't do any Byrds either. I caught hell from it. LOL. So much so that I had to seek redemption so I dug it back out last week and did THE RIFF THAT MADE THE 12 STRING FAMOUS. I was going to give you the link but I don't want to disrespect your channel. Check it out if you have time. I love that Guild. The one I'm using in my two videos is borrowed from a student. I sanded the saddle, filed the nut, and I was still forced to tune down in the first video as the intonation was so bad. I just picked up an Ibanez 12 string. I was going to go with a cheaper Guild ($400) but I went with a $300 Ibanez. I may send it back and upgrade. We'll see. it just arrived an hour ago. Anyway, I'm rambling. I subscribed to the channel and I'm going to check out some more of your videos. Take care and enjoy your weekend. -Mark

Great playing and sounding guitar. Ive got a question tho, why is it that many of these 12 string guitar lists include over the hills and far away when it was played on a Martin D28 6 string guitar for the intro but everyone plays the intro with a 12 string. As i understand Page did use a bit of the 12 string sprinkled on the song to add some nuances but for the most part it was played on a 6 string. Imagine playing the intro to stairway to heaven on a 12 string because Page used a 12 string later on in the song. I mean it does sound nice but i just don’t get it.

Other than the blues, there only 2 or 3 than you can play the entire song with the 12 string. Unless you have a double neck or studio...you're stuck playing the intro or a verse over and over...what are some songs that are played entirely or at least throughout on a 12 string?

Hard Only heard one guitarist make 12 strings bends good, Serge Fiori from Harmonium (check out the song Dixie) I have one, and while I often use it as lead, bending is.... not made for it. The two high strings sound particularly good when you’re tremolo picking, and the G or D strings are awesome for some jazzy/folky/country/bluegrass/indie/alt licks It’s of course very cool as a rythm instrument or accompaniment for singing There are some électric 12 strings which are probably easier to bend, but I never played one.
