There are certain words in English that go together more commonly than others. We often call these pairs or groups of words "collocations", and it is very useful to learn vocabulary this way (in chunks) rather than studying individual words. In this video, I teach 10 verb - noun collocations which you will find extremely useful... not least if you taking a Cambridge English exam.

I have shed a lot of tears while learning English... I enjoy learning English with you, and I believe it will pay dividends. You dispel myths about the quality of free videos available to everyone! I hold a grudge my sister has not shown it to me earlier! Broaching a subject of resources, there is no excuse for procrastination any longer! You pique interest and blaze a trail. Thank you for allaying fears that English is out of my reach.

Dear Ben, Yesterday, I finally took the C2 Proficiency. I'd like to let you know that without your videos and the online course with all your tips to get the highest scores possible, I wouldn't have been able to prepare it properly, and with an effective strategy. Most probably, tears would have been shed, and panic attacks would have been a thing on a regular basis. Fortunately, I ran into a video of yours earlier this year, and from that very moment on, I found in this channel a valuable alley and a guide to facing the exam in the best way possible, providing self-confidence enough to know exactly what I have to do and how to respond without sitting on the fence or losing my train of though! Thank you so, so, so much for being such an outstanding teacher and for guaranteeing to all of us the highest content quality ever through your videos, always riveting and handy, and your fantastic courses! To everyone out there in need of excellent preparation or to whoever just wants to attend meaningful English lessons: Ben and To The Point English are the very best options! I'm going to stay tuned for more content such as this and all the future updates. Thank you so much again! Best regards, Elisa

Hi Ben. Just wanted to let you know today I finally got my Proficiency certificate and I got a 219! Lowkey a bit disappointed I was one point off from getting an A, but still really proud of my results. I'm certain that the 230 I got in the Use of English section was mainly because I binged all of your videos in a very small number of days haha. I wanted to thank you for the amazing content you make, I truly believe there is no other creator like you. Lots of love.

Happy new year Ben, here´s my translation as a Spanish native speaker. Hope it helps you to attain a Proficiency+ C3 level speaker in our language :) 1- To allay fears: to calm/reduce worries or concerns. (disipar los miedos/temores). 2- To shed tears: to cry (metaphorical). ("lágrimas de cocodrilo" por algo que no te da en realidad pena) 3- To broach the subject: To talk about something sensitive. 4- To pique interest/curiosity: To stimulate, to cause interest 5- To whet your appetite: To increase/ someones interest on smth (usually providing a small sample) 6- To blaze a trail: To do smth you have never done b4. (Abrir el camino siendo el pionero) 7- To hold/bear a grudge: To continue to have a bad feeling towards someone because of smth that happened previously (guardarle rencor, celos…) 8- To pay dividends: to get results at a later stage (obtener resultados a largo plazo/pagar dividendos). 9- To take liberties: to behave in an unaproppiate way. ( tomarse algo con falta de decoro, libertinaje…) 10- To dispel myths: To disprove a widely held false belief. Desmitificar algo que es mentira.

Thanks Ben, your videos always pique my interest and whet my appetite for learning more; your clear explanations allay my fears of not being up to par and, even though I still hold a grudge against my English teachers at school, I feel more confident now. Eventually, your lessons dispel the mith that online teaching is not effective.

Sir, I truly love your funny way in teaching English, it's not only made your lesson getting shorter than it looked like and more fun but also helping in memorizing words! Appreciate very much your effort in helping students! "A lot of Western and Australian tourists took liberties by strolling around sacred places or sites of Hindus or Muslims, which angered the local people and prompted the authorities to implement new rules." The US media has to dispel the myth that Donald J. Trump is God chosen or Jesus!

In formal language, can something refer to an ability or an abstract living being that is not a human or an animal? Both in the sense that this abstract being does not exist in real life and in the sense that it exists in the film?

Allay my fear of abandonment! Alas, I can no longer shed bitter tears for all the years in which I have lost those whom I deeply cared about. Broach the subject with me and have me divulge my heart's secrets, for I have lost the ability to open up to you. Reassure me that life without pain is merely a myth to dispel. It will pay dividends to help me let go of all the grudges I've borne against those who have betrayed me. Have I piqued your curiousity about my past trauma, such that you now care to inquire?
