Marion, I very much liked your message about openness and inclusivity during Sukkot. I have never thought about the holiday from that perspective but I think it's an amazing idea! Unfortunately our temple isn't putting up a sukkah this year due to COVID, but I am definitely going to keep this outlook in mind when I celebrate it next year! Hi! Chag Sameach Sukkot from the Philippines! 🌿🍋🌿🍋🌿 Some people here in my country have started to observe the holidays in the Bible, which includes Sukkot. I also didn't grow up observing the Jewish holidays but I learned about it 8yrs ago and has been observing it since then. :) Here people make huts in their yard or make small tents inside the house. I live in a dormitory (not much space) so I usually just decorate my bed with leaves and shawls to make a tent. I hope you can make one too! We're commanded to make a sukka, to remind how GOD was with His people in difficult times/ the wilderness. It doesn't have to be bought or anything. :)

Look for your local chabad house online at chabad.org or put into Google chabad house near me. They're the nicest ppl and they'll hook u up w info, literature, and they host shabbas and holidays (dunno now about covid) it's beautiful

My favorite holy day for so many reasons…especially the symbolisms…thank you for your video❤ You can do it on the cheap if you have a wooden fence (that is the back to attach everthing to). Use wood lattice and burlap for walls. 2 2x4s + 6 2x8 wood latice and use your own tree branches after a good prune (free) and burlaps is very cheap…You can replace 4 of the lattice with 2x4s to make it REALLY cheap…I hope one day you are inspired to make one…it is a very beautiful experience…

It's a big one, especially in terms of traditions around mothers. I never thought about this before, but can the sukkah be an igloo? Don't know how many Jews are above the Arctic Circle, but... It is so important that holidays rejoice in the bounty of the harvest and remind us that we are God's harvest. I love that the "heavenly host" are invited in addition to neighbors. I have always loved the empty chair for Elijah, so am comforted by including all generations in the invitation to join us. It leaves us more aware that we are not alone as the only generation.

Scripture doesn't give specifics on what your booth should look like, so I think God would be just fine with an igloo lol! Sukkahs and the instructions that come with them are (extrabiblical) Jewish traditions...

Great video, love all the information. I just wanted to give an idea for a Sukkah, so you don't have to spend alot of money. We have an ezup canopy, that we took the top off, and put palm branches on top. And for the sides, you can either buy side pieces for the canopy, or buy any fabric for the sides. We then put up led curtain lights across the top, to represent the stars. It turned out really good, and plenty of light inside. Happy Sukkot

I didn’t get to put up my sukkah this year :( the cost of getting it right can really be prohibitive. That said- I loved having one when we did put it up!

I just make do with what I have. (2 years we couldn't have any kind of sukkah due to being homeless.) Our little apartment has a little balcony. We hung up a lacey table cloth, and duct taped cloth and paper "leaves" to the walls. Not exactly "kosher" but better than nothing for me. 🙂🌿

I live in an apartment. I just went and cut down tree branches from the field next to me, and built my sukkah for free! Set it up on my balcony! So good! Thank you for this information! If I may, in traditional Judaism the 7 Ushpizin are Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, and David. ( I.E. Avraham, Itzchak, Yaakov, Yossef, Moshe, Aaron and David) there are no women Ushpizin 🌹 but you can of course speak of them if you want ! Chag Sameach!

If you start saving now, you could have more than enough for a good sized Sukkah for you and your family next Sukkot. You can also get bamboo mats to use as a covering for your Sukkah, please ask your RABBI if he feels that would be appropriate. I know a lot of orthodox Jewish family to use the bamboo mats with great success.

Yes of course! Menstruation and pregnancy are a huge part of Judaism since they are essentially the foundation for life and procreation. Generally, men speaking openly about women's periods is considered immodest out of respect for the woman. with sensitive subjects such as pregnancy, there is a concept of " the blessing only dwells in matters that are hidden from the eye" meaning certain things are better left private, which is why here in Israel in the orthodox community it's common not to tell family and friends about a pregnancy until further along. However these are still very important topics and many rabbis have lectures about them, you can even find some on KZbin. My favourite is Rav Dror. He has videos on a huge variety of topics and he's one of the few orthodox rabbis on KZbin who's not afraid to share his true opinion.

@@prinsespluis In the community I was raised in (orthodox Israeli) that is generally the custom. often, other than immediate family, other people don't know about the pregnancy until it is visible-somewhere around the beginning of the second trimester. Obviously that is not always the case and everyone can choose for themselves whatever is right for them😊
