I plant garlic every year and i do pretty intensive intercropping/ relay cropping in my garden. last year my garlic went in the bed that was tomatoes all summer, before cutting out the tomatoes i planted lettuce under them, and then when i cut the tomatoes out i planted the garlic, but left the lettuce in, picked it all winter, and especially lots in spring, and *twisted* the lettuce out (certain plants you want to get the main part of the tap root) in mid-late april when it started bolting. the garlic did great. this year i planted my garlic in one of my two pepper beds, which also had eggplants. i just cut the plants at the base and dibbed holes for the garlic and away they go!

Thank you for sharing! Sounds like a great way to keep the space producing and roots in the ground. I’ll definitely try that next year.
