" 10 Fastest Torpedoes Ever Recorded "
A modern torpedo is an underwater ranged weapon launched above or below the water surface, self-propelled towards a target, and with an explosive warhead designed to detonate either on contact with or in proximity to the target.
Historically, it was called an automotive, automobile, locomotive or fish torpedo; colloquially called a fish. The term torpedo was originally employed for a variety of devices, most of which would today be called mines. From about 1900, torpedo has been used strictly to designate a self-propelled underwater explosive device.
While the battleship had evolved primarily around engagements between armored warships with large-caliber guns, the torpedo allowed small torpedo boats and other lighter surface vessels, submarines/submersibles, even improvised fishing boats or frogmen, and later light aircraft, to destroy large ships without the need of large guns, though sometimes at the risk of being hit by longer-range artillery fire.
Modern torpedoes can be divided into lightweight and heavyweight classes; and into straight-running, autonomous homers, and wire-guided. They can be launched from a variety of platforms.

This was a complete waste of time. Information of dubious accuracy, and the title refers to recorded speeds, while including an Iranian torpedo that is likely nothing more than a non-functional model, like their "stealth fighter". Spam.
@MrFlatage
@MrFlatage 4 жыл бұрын
It is in fact a real and operational torpedo that is out there and it can sink ships. Ofcourse based on Russian technology. We should not take people seriously who believe that some kinda 'stealth fighter' exists. Name an aircraft that cannot be seen on radar? Just one? See now? Does not exist. What does in fact exists can be easily fact checked and proof read from the annual US RAND report comparing all the worlds military capability. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmTQdY2odt6KmMU Care to explain how as you stated: 'non-functional model' is creating lines in the sea at speeds normal torpedo's do not go? With every naval military ship in the Straight tracking it? Sure the makers of this video do a word for word Wiki copy which is out of date or at times completely false and inaccurate. Proof read from the direct official sources and you would already have known it is not as you say.

@@JamesPhieffer Wow cannot find US sources? Yea rand.org is very hard to find. ;-) So you see Iran launch one ... after the other if you fact checked the videos out there and you still go into denial? Well at least Russia has been working on their Shkval II which is major feature at Arms Expo's where they are selling it. As you said an aircraft that cannot be seen on radar? Doesn't exist. But sure let's go with the US scientists? fas.org/blogs/secrecy/2008/12/hoot_torpedo/ Casting great doubts on Iran's claim they actually built it themselves and pretending only they and Russia have these. Meanwhile back in the real world built by Diehl BGT Defence, and Altas Elektronik the previously 'top secret' Barracuda travels at over 800km/h, faster than the Shkval, and is fully guided, capable of twisting and turning in on its target at high speed. Unveiled in May at IMDEX 2005 in Singapore the Barracuda has already undergone a whole range of successful tests. The designers of the prototype Barracuda boast that its capabilities are unmatched, claiming the design is 10 years ahead of American research. The Barracuda is maneuverable enough even to home in on, and knock out an incoming Shkval. Water-tunnel tests have already proven that speed can be achieved: In 1997, the Navy tested a supercavitating projectile that reached 5,082 feet per second, becoming the first underwater projectile to exceed Mach 1. Which would be US ONR or Office of Naval Research. Yes in a water-tunnel. You don't want any 'sonic boom' underwater so there are limits unless you want to wipe all marine life in a 100 mile radius. Active sonar works at 140 dB which reaches around 300 miles and is already killing marine life. When a source is named you should have the brains to proof read and fact check. Else you end up making these Wiki videos on KZbin. ;-)

If you are going to use something as noisy with no active homing as a supercavitating torpedo and give away your position (which kind of defeats the purpose of using submarines and torpedos) you might as well use an ASROC type rocket launched acoustic homing torpedo, you get speed and homing capability. Probably a lot cheaper as well.

@@EmperorLionflame Absolutely ridiculous Spearfish torpedo development began in the 1970s, with production starting in 1988, and deployment in 1992 when F21 torpedo development began in the 2008, with production starting in 2013, and deployment in 2016 Read www.popsci.com/story/technology/french-f21-smart-torpedo/ The US, UK, Sweden and Russia use thermal batteries as the energy source for their torpedoes. These batteries “have an advantage in terms of power,” according to Jean-Martin Hepp, BU ASM marketing manager-but need an internal heat source to work and generate heat during operation, making their use “much more risky.” The torpedo becomes more detectable to an enemy using infrared sensors. They are also noisier. “The difference in noise is like the one between a petrol-powered car engine and an electric car engine,”..."As for intelligence: the F21 carries a sonar, which are its eyes and ears. The data gathered is then processed by the tracking management system. “This is where we find the really disruptive technology,” Hepp says. When wire-guided, it allows an operator to see and hear what the F21 is seeing and hearing. But it also allows the F21 to analyze the tactical situation by itself. It can distinguish between a decoy and a real vessel, it can recognize a civilian or friendly ship among a fleet of enemies, and it can avoid all known counter-measures" www.navyrecognition.com/index.php/news/defence-news/2018/may-2018-navy-naval-defense-news/6244-f21-artemis-heavyweight-torpedo-successfully-tested-from-french-ssn.html "The F21 torpedo is the world's only new development in the heavy torpedo category. The problem with super cavitating torpedoes is that they are very noisy, easily tracked and are susceptible to anti-torpedo measures. That noise also makes it almost impossible to use acoustic homing on the target. In addition they're great at going straight ahead, but like the big V-8 powered "lead sleds' that Detroit was putting out in the 60's and 70's they don't do well in those pesky turns. That makes them susceptible to evasive action. When the technology is mastered they may very well be a game changer in the future, but every weapon is a problem for which a solution is usually found, albeit not necessarily in time. Witness the measures and counter measures that Britain and the U.S. used against the Germans and the Germans used against the Allies in WWll.
