I have been researching like crazy and I keep coming back to your videos. You are a delight to watch and so informative. My husband and I traveled in a converted step van with our baby and a 7-year old many years ago. I remember them as the easiest times with my kids ... so glad to hear you are going to continue your adventure when you start your family! So, now at 68, I am making steps to return to van life as a single woman with a dog! I hope it is as easy as with kids and a husband! I would love to buy your van!

Welcome to Western Canada Easterns! But do you come in peace? ;) Favourite City Boondocking: I have a Transit so I go to a Ford dealership and park on the street. I use this spot almost exclusively in California, I even pull out a fuse so the check engine light comes on so if I get a knock at night I can say the van needs service in the morning. Never had a problem/knock. Also for California all rest stops you are legally allowed to stay for 8 hours day or night. So arrive at 10PM leave by 6AM. Banff Hot Tip: Hopefully you are visiting Banff?!?! When you go to explore the town park on Bow Avenue south of the canoe rentals. You are literally 20ft from the Bow River, my go to spot everytime. Daytime only. Alberta Hot Tip: Kananaskis sweet AF… The drive from Banff to Jasper sweet AF… Have fun guys hopefully you have plans to make it to Vancouver.

Hahaha, indeed a quirky moment! Thought I would share this little story just for fun. I'm also French Canadian and always assumed the wedding ring goes on your left hand. I never questioned it but then I moved to the Netherlands and married a Dutchie. The dutch wear their ring on the right hand. Whaaaat? So I googled it. It turns out there's not really a good or wrong hand. It depends on your culture and preference basically. So, thats it. I wear my ring on the left anyway. And my husband lost his, so I can't remember where he wore it. It slipped off while washing his hands and despite his best efforts to get it back, it now most probably lies in a camping's septic tank on the west coast of Canada. Haha! At least he made a friend while trying to take the whole sink apart... and, no it was NOT the camping owners! Haha! So, Dom, gentlemen, if you keep your ring, no matter which hand its on, you're already doing a great job! Haha! ;)

Noticed the accounting didn't include things like van insurance, health insurance (which, presumably you need to purchase when traveling the US), maintenance, etc. Seems important for folks to be able to visualize as well.
@vanlifesagas3 жыл бұрын
These are very good questions. We'll certainly be doing a video about that shortly. Thanks for the tip Zachary! In the meantime, insuring the van in Québec, Canada, works the same as insuring a vehicle. A professional evaluated our van and the insurance company insured it to the amount mentioned by the evaluator. As for health insurance, it was around $600 for a 10-month period. Obviously, we're covered in Canada, but the $600 covered 120 non-consecutive days in the USA. Good questions!

I'd love it if you did a video about winter in the van in Canada. Your back doors don't look insulated and you have so many windows. Sure -30C your pipes freeze, but your water is above the floor, so does it freeze in the van? How does the van handle in the snow? Presuming you have snow tires (b/c QC law), where do you store your 4-season tires? All things winter in a van, please.
@vanlifesagas4 жыл бұрын
Very very good questions! We'll certainly do a winter video when winter comes. In the meantime, the water freezes, that's for sure. That's why we don't have a shower, the pipes would blow in the winter. As for the windows, we cover them with insulation in the winter. We also have a heater making it possible to sleep when it's -30. The tires are good, they're high end tires and they're snow tires. But in all honesty, people in Quebec don't live in vans in the winter, it's nearly impossible. They either go South or on the West coast, or store their van for the winter!

Hi Guys! Coming back to your van because I really love it, and I'm about to get the roof vent for my Peugeot Boxer, and I am comparing the Dometic Fantastic with its rain sensor (£380) and a Fiamma vent that would have the same specs except for the rain sensor: the Fiamma needs to be close manually (£180). Now here is my question if you don't mind sharing your experience on this point: how much do you find yourself using this rain sensor option, how essential is it? For twice the price I hesitate because I wonder how much I would benefit from this automatic closure system (I kind of like it though..). I take it's mainly for the nights, but in winter, do you have to leave the fan on at a low speed whole night for example? Sorry for all these questions but many thanks in advance again for your advice! Take care, cheers from Scotland!
@vanlifesagas4 жыл бұрын
The rain sensor is pretty useful for bad weather. It is not rare, for example, that the fan shuts down by itself in the middle of the night to avoid water getting inside. So yes, we would say it’s a very good and reliable option!

Good question. The cellphones are actually a professional expense from Dom’s work, so we took it out to have more accurate numbers. But if we calculate those, it would be around 150$/month for 100GO of Highspeed Internet. We’ll do a video shortly on those professional tools, if you are interested!
@clodh614 жыл бұрын
@@vanlifesagas Thanks for the info .. for most of people it won't be an expense ;) if we are not travailleur Autonome ;) ..and definitely a video on prof. tools cell and software like Light room or I'm looking at Davinci ( seam less expensive) .. a bientôt

i am fron the philippines and i dont think or, i could just be very unaware, that vanlife or living in the van is being done here. although, i'd like to do it, if only i have the resources to do it. anyways, congrats to u and may the baby come soon, that is, once the new van to accomodate the baby is done and ready for the road. God bless!

We were actually in the Philippines in February and discussed with locals in Siargao. They were having the same reflection. I believe they mentioned it would be difficult traveling the van from island to island.

@@vanlifesagas That's where I'm gonna switch to french... No big deal. Quand t'es moindrement en santé... Il n'y a vraiment pas de quoi s'inquiéter!

My wife fell in love with your custom log. Do you have any videos on your log? We have been RVing (not vans) for almost 30 years now, in 2.5 years we will be fulltiming. My wife is big into lists and notebooks and I will not hear the end of it until I find out more about it,

Loving your videos from the UK. Your bed is across the van, I am assuming that panel vans in Canada/US are wider than in Europe. Dom looks like he is quite tall, is he able to lie flat?
@vanlifesagas4 жыл бұрын
Very good question. You can check our van tour for more information about that, but yes, Dom can sleep across. He's 6'1 and the van is 6' across. He always sleeps on his side with his knees bent, so it's plenty of space for him. Also allows for more space in the van.
