I do not know if the best is exported, but unlike Thailand I found getting even the must standard fruit such as pineapple and mango very difficult in Philipinnes supermarkets. Same for fish. Maybe I have to try Bicol. Luzon hypermarts less than a mediocre selection of fruits and also vegetables. Here in Bangkok Big C has a huge selection including several varieties of papaya and mango, starfruit, jackfruit and even cooked jackfruit seeds anf mulberries - some of which is organically grown. I think the health consciousness and/or the economy must be more developed in Thailand as compared to Philippines.

Catmon is so fun to eat because every petal till untill the inner fruit is edible. Taste of petal is mild sour but inner spiral fruit is a little slimy but sour. That fruit is best for garnishing main dish like grilled steak or BBQ, it will complement the taste. Even the young leaves of tree is edible too and can be eaten raw. The sipral part of fruit has red hair like corn does. Its nice to plant it infront of your house because the flower is beautiful.

In our province in Bicol, we also have Aprun, Dau and Pusu-pusuan. Aprun is like a very small mango smaller than the tip of your little finger. It is green and sour when unripe but is sweet and yellow when ripe. Its seed is hairy though. Dau is the fruit of Dau tree and sour even when ripe when in turns to yellow. Pusu-pusuan is similar to Tagbak but instead of up there at the tip of the plant, it grows on the ground. Its fruit is shaped like a big elongated garlic and is made up of several cloves that contain the sweet seeds and pulp. When I was little (late 60s), we used to scour the forest near our home for these wild fruits. I learned that the forest is still there but I don't know if we can still find these wild fruits.

Wow, lucky you. I guess our own countrymen and farmers/ planters/ gardeners don't know or identify them.
