@@lindsaystanks thats awesome, ive been wanting to put together a planted fresh water aquarium for awhile now but im not quite sure what kind of plants and such id like to get
@lindsaystanksАй бұрын
@@therookie6565 I think some of my favorite plants are stems like ludwigia, rotala and bacopa. There's a lot of different kinds of all of them. Pearl weed is also a solid plant that can make a nice carpet or mid ground plant. Micro sword is also easy to grow. I like all of these since they can grow well in a low tech or high tech tank - and they have a nice variety of shapes and textures. You honestly can't go wrong with a planted tank. For me it's always the more plants the better, haha. 🤩🌿 I hope you can set one up soon!

I have such easy access to this species since I live in south eastern Florida. I regularly catch them in my own backyard and they are quite plentiful and such a joy to watch in an aquarium. They sadly do not get much love since they are so common and lack a lot of the color that many other fish have in the hobby but I quite like them.
@lindsaystanks2 ай бұрын
@@reef2rainforestthat is amazing! I'm so jealous of all of the diversity you have in Florida! I'm in TX and I'm hoping to find them locally at some point since they've been found near the boarder of Louisiana before. I tend to favorite the plainer looking fish it seems! I do wish they were more popular in the hobby. They are just so fun to watch and have so much personality. They are definitely some of my favorites!

I catch these little guys all the time, love em. Ive kept them in community tanks and by themselves and they always make me feel happy to watch them. It sucks that they do not live very long, being that they are seasonal, but its still fun to watch them breed and cycle through new generations of each other.

@lindsaystanks2 ай бұрын
@@jakejippy768 thank you so much, I really do appreciate it! I've always loved to have a jungle of plants if I can! I still have yet to trim the plants coming out of the water and one is even getting close to the ground now. I got this tank on FB marketplace from a guy who tried to start a rimless tank business. He was getting rid of all of his stock so I have 4 of his tanks. This was the last shallow 10 gallon he had so it was worth the 3 hour round trip! I know UNS makes one in the same size if you are looking to get one!

@lindsaystanksАй бұрын
I LOVE that you named them all after beans 😭 they totally look like little beans cruising around the tank. This past week I was able to collect them in a lake in Florida and it was mostly all males! It took over an hour to locate any females. I do wish they were more popular in fish stores! I'm hoping to get a good breeding program set up so I can offer them locally in my area. They are just so cute and funny and are great livebearers to keep since they don't give birth to entire brood at once.

Hello 🫶 absolutely love this video. From your experience, do they actively hunt/eat shrimp?
@lindsaystanksАй бұрын
Thank you so much! And I really haven't seen any issues with keeping them I'm with the shrimp. I know for sure the shrimp are breeding since I see tiny baby shrimp all of the time in the tank. And so far I've never seen the fish actually eating or attacking any. I'm sure a few babies get gobbled up here and there, but nothing that effects the general population! I think they make perfect tank mates for shrimp. The least killifish mouths are sooo small I think it's hard for them to predate on anything much bigger than baby brine shrimp.
