You forgot one of the most tragic Video Game Studio losses of all time - Westwood Studios. Founded in 1985 and closed in 2003, Estwood would spend nearly two decades as one of gaming's great powerhouses. This studio was the original developer of the legendary Command & Conquer franchise as well as such IPs as Lands of Lore, Eye of the Beholder, Journeyman Project, as well as media tie-ins for BattleTech, Disney, D&D, and others. It was one of many companies bought out by EA to gain control of their IPs. Westwood Studios was shutdown with their operations being absorbed by EA Los Angeles (Sound like a familiar story?)

5. YOU TAKE THAT BACK! I LOVE THE GUITAR HERO GAMES! I WILL NOT HAVE ANYONE SLANDER ROCK! 1. Microsoft didn't get the memo that making a good game was more important than just selling more copies. I mean, even Capcom was humbled by this lesson and took it to heart. Back in Capcom's dark period, they set their standards for a video game's success too high. One of their requirements for a game to get a sequel or be deemed a success was to sell 2 million copies. Some of these fails include Dragon's Dogma, Power Stone, Okami, Darkstalkers: Ressurection, and Resident Evil 6 and 7. Some of these "failed sales" were due to bad publicity/marketing, ill-advised release dates, being overshadowed by other games, or whatever. And many of their games that failed to meet that threshold pulled in positive reception and sales numbers that other companies would kill to acquire. And yet, Capcom's definition of "success" at the time was so far above what many others would dare to set, that what would seem like an adequate success went down as flops in their book. But at least they eased up since then. After all, Mega Man 11 sold just under 1 million and Capcom was happy enough that the next game is implied to be in pre-production.

I also liked the Guitar Hero games, but Activision basically ruined the series by deciding to milk the franchise to death, releasing five to six games a year, some of them being mere reskins of Guitar Hero: World Tour (with Band Hero, the series' sole E10+ entry, being a rehash of Guitar Hero 5, which most fans felt was the worst, as despite good reviews from critics, I have seen people say it had the weakest song setlist and sales were probably damaged by the Kurt Cobain controversy. While we are on the topic, we can easily say Vicarious Visions is another game company that should not have ceased to exist. They did the Wii ports to some of the Guitar Hero games, and also developed Crash N. Sane Trilogy and THPS 1+2, but Activision had the stupid idea to have the company absorbed into Blizzard, putting the brakes on THPS 3+4.

There's also: 1. Big Red Button: This was a startup studio established by former Naughty Dog members who were hired by Sega to make a new Sonic game, which turned up as the awful Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. Before development began, they approached Sega with a Crash tech demo to prove that they are indeed the guys behind Crash. After Sonic Boom, they shut down. It's a shame they didn't last long enough to work on Crash again with Activision now that Vicarious Visions is gone and Toys for Bob has gone indie. 2. Nana-On Sha: The studio that was responsible for Parappa. After Parappa the Rapper 2, the studio went silent until they returned with a brand new collaboration with Majesco and Rodney Greenblatt: Major Minor's Majestic March. The game was a Major failure, and Nana-On Sha fell to financial ruin. Years later, Masaya Matsura, a key member of Nana-On Sha, would later start a Kickstarter for a Parappa successor codenamed Project Rap Rabbit, but it failed to get funded due to ongoing bad stigma surrounding Kickstarter following the release of Yooka-Laylee and Shenmue 3. 3. Compile: Not to be confused with Compile Heart, Compile was responsible for the Madou Monogatari series, which Puyo Puyo was based on. After Puyo Puyo~n, the company suddenly went under, and Sega bought all their IPs. 4. Blue Angel Studio: a mysterious studio responsible for only one game: The Nintendo 64 version of Resident Evil 2. I wonder why they disappeared after that? 5. Eurocom: A company that is known for their Nintendo 64 ports of Cruis'n World and Hydro Thunder, and known for their work on Spyro: A Hero's Tail and Goldeneye 007 Reloaded. Their last game was 007 Legends, which was a colossal financial failure as Activision rushed development of the game due to the 007 license set to expire at the end of the year. As punishment, Activision forced Eurocom to shut down for "incompetence".

However, I CANNOT and WILL NOT advocate for any poorly concieved mass layoffs or studio shutdowns (or excuses for said shutdowns) of any kind? What kind of image do you think that makes for the industry? "USE YOUR MINDS!! Think about people and how they perceive you! This is another reason why people should stop being happy that a big company is buying or merging with another big companies. This is almost never good for the costumer, but people get fooled and believe mergers and acquisitions are good because crossovers and cheap games on Game Pass.

I miss Clover Studios, THQ and Neversoft. Shame that we never got Viewtiful Joe 3, WWE Brawl got scrapped and WWE Smackdown vs. Raw Online got cancelled and Neversoft got shackled and turned into an Call of Duty making machine. This is why the Call of Duty franchise needs to die off it has long above and beyond has overstayed its own welcome.
