We played Clue today and loved it, but it did get me curious as to whether there were other games similar to Clue. Googled it and found this- was pleasantly surprised and glad the Dice Tower had a video just on topic!! Should have checked here first!

I LOVE Clue. Been playing it since I was 9. But, I also have Mystery of the Abby. I have the Kill Dr. Lucky anniversary version you showed, but, I first met Kill Dr. Lucky back when they only had the black and white version in the cardboard envelope. Love it too. But, Clue will always have a special spot in my heart. Over 35 of them in my collection.

NO AWKWARD GUESTS? 221B Baker Street has been reprinted with 200 cases. You go to locations (like Clue but these are next to each other) and get the clue from the clue book. They are harder to solve than Clue as you might get something for only half of the last name, etc. and obviously also based on Sherlock Holmes. Love this game.

Surprised that Deception: Murder in Hong Kong wasn't mentioned but then I thought that Tom was probably looking for games to be played by a regular family and, in that game, you definitely need a bigger group for the game to really shine.

Letters from Whitechapel is the best game of the hidden movement genre, it is a much better game than Specter Ops and it also involves a lot more deduction.

The best thing about Clue/Cluedo is that it's very simple to play takes only 5 - 10 min to explain the rules and set up the game minimal amount of cards

Clue is a great game cuz anyone can play... the rules are simple, the game play is simple, and it's a great family game night classic. Try explaining the immersive rules to people who just wants to play a simple game for family game night. These games are great for gaming groups. Clue is great because it's a family based game designed for families. Don't get me wrong, I play most of the games on this list with my gaming group. But nothing beats Clue with it's simplicity and fun.

I had my first play of Clue recently. Thought, I would hate it, hence the role and move mechanic, but it was decent and surprisingly entertaining. I'm very interested in your list though. Only played some of the Exit games yet, and agree they were great. I wonder about Outfoxed, do you think, this will still make a good present for an 8 year old boy, or would he be already too old? He loves Clue, and that's the point, why I played my first game. Something else: could you please make a "10 games better then Ticket to Ride" list next? A couple, who are my friends love this game and pretty much nothing else, I tried with them. I appreciate their company and would love to play more with them, but I'm loath to play this game. It's really anger inducing and on the other hand triple-o boring in my opinion.

Thank you, adolson for the detailed reply and recommendations. I wasn't even aware, there was a board game adaptation for Name of the Rose! Based on book and film, I would guess the theme a bit grim for an 8 year old, but probably it is treated tame as a game? I will check out, if I can find these games.

You should look for "Incomodos Invitados". Nowadays just in spanish but in a few time in english. Look for it! My favourite 2016 spanish game!

Tom you really need to have Zee show you Perfect Alibi. It is a GREAT clue replacement. I will also echo others that Deception: MIHC should have been on the list.

Question please! I'm a great fan of Clue. But it requires at least three players. I played the unofficial 2 players variant but it's not very interesting. Are there deduction games like clue for just 2 players?

Thank you but I have Mr Jack and I don't feel it like a Clue game. Because there is not a mistery to solve. All you do is trying to run away from the board or try to avoid the other player to run away. I like game where there is a mistery to solve...but for two! If they exists. Maybe someone invented a mechanic like that. I hope so.

TheGreatHamEl I agree, but only with max player count. 3 or 4 and it's too easy to solve. Also, it's improved with the variant that eliminates roll and move and lets you just jump to any room.

Trevin Taylor We always played that you could move to an adjacent room (or connected room) for free. Any room makes it too easy.

I own and love 221B Baker Street. Very like Clue but the locations are very close together. The cases are harder to solve but Hansen just did a reprint recently with all 180 original cases (you used to have to buy 20 case expansions separately) and added 20 more never published. I had a feeling Kill Doctor Lucky was going to be on this list. And that I vehemently disagree. Played it once, took about an hour and a half to play, but the game got stuck in a loop where for the last 45 minutes of game time, I did not have a single turn. Will never play again.

Kill Doctor Lucky - Out of print Mystery of the Abbey - Out of print Outfoxed - Kids game, Co-op Stopthief! - interesting but requires phone app 3 wishes - too light, card game Exit - good but you can only play once, co-op Mysterium - Similar to Deception Murder in HK, requires someone to sit out Sherlock Holmes - good but too long and wordy Specter Ops - hidden movement, different genre Spyfall - very good but it's more party game None of these can replace Clue, clue only weakness is the roll to move mechism. If it changes to "move to any room once a turn", it will greatly remove the random factor and speed up the gameplay.

Have you played the CLUE Card Game? Similar idea but you are trying to figure out who did it, where they are trying to escape to, and in what vehicle. No rolling dice but there are added action cards which let you do special things. It's a quicker version of Clue really, but still great fun.

I hate Clue. It's slow and boring. I'm sure it would be too hard to find games better than Clue as they don't set the standard very high.
