I think the thing about Sir, You're Being Hunted is you are literally being hunted. In the other games the enemies are just hostile and searching for you but in Sir they treat the whole thing like an actual game hunt. They spread out and march a line through fields, send the dogs into brush after you, lie in wait near resources you need, etc. There's something truly eerie about the methodical nature of it.
@Lickicker Жыл бұрын
That is a very good point. In the forest half the time your attacked they just so happen to stumble across whatever log cabin youge built. Ya the cannibals are attacking you, but its never as if their hunting you. Most you can say is if you piss them off enough they will raid your home, but thats not exactly a equivalent to being hunted like a fox for sport
@walls_of_skulls6061 Жыл бұрын
I came here to comment this exact same thing. Sir you are being hunted is a hidden gem. It really slipped under the radar but it’s vibes are truly on point. The fact that visibility is your most important stat on your hud followed by health illustrates this point. The game is barely even attempting to be a survival game and it’s not really open world. There’s a pretty limited area in which you play and the survival aspect is more based on how fast you can recover instead of long term sustainability. The game is the closest I’ve ever seen to the book “The most dangerous game” and a lot of the same strategies are employed by both the player and the robots. For instance when you happen across an area that isn’t very populated there can be birds, who startle. The robots will see that and start to make their way towards the player. Then after a warning that first time players can observe the patterns of the birds and use the exact same trick on the robots. The ai of the robots is additionally complex, with them both observing the world and creating groups to do various tasks. In the beginning it’s just a few robots with shotguns, but they break into small groups and start sweeping the island. Some groups will find loot or pieces of the device and guard it from you. As you progress more and more types of robots start showing up. Some start to have robotic hounds, some start riding around in hot air balloons with spotlights, eventually they start setting bear traps in the forest and alarms in the fields. No where is safe, and the pressure constantly ramps up as you slowly sneak around only dating to run when you find some cover from sight lines. It’s a phenomenal game and anyone who reads this and hasn’t played you owe it to yourself to give it a shot.

Playing The Forest taught me that it is so hard building and maintaining a base that you are better off without one. You can always carry everything you need, no need to store things
@LtksK Жыл бұрын
That's what I dislike about those games. I like building bases and in an actual survival situation I'd probably try to get in a stable situation (at least to some degree) before exploring too much. The fact that the difficulty ramps up, even if you are staying as far away as possible from enemies while also just minding our own business, actually discourages from building a base. If you don't progress weapons wise fast enough your base will be overrun sooner or later. What's even the point of the whole elaborate building system, if you are better of rushing through the story? On top of that the most valuable resources respawn only when relogging, so shorter gaming sessions make the game easier, while longer gaming sessions make the game harder. Both should be equal, so players can play the way they want to. While I do like both games, I really dislike those two design choices.
@kostismetallo8697 Жыл бұрын
@@LtksK your point about the elaborate building system had me wondering too. Guess they give you the option?
@LtksK Жыл бұрын
@@kostismetallo8697 The building system in the second game got the biggest upgrade from the first game, so I expected it to being more important. Plus you got someone bringing resources in. So I naturally thought they wanted us to spend more time building than before. And that's what I did. But they completely removed safer areas and boats while still making your build quite fragile. It's no wonder almost all KZbin Videos of the game are about safe bases, like building on ice before it melts. I don't really feel like the devs gave us an option. At least no viable option. In theory we can play with lots of building, but in practice it's only viable if you cheat the game.

Making a comparison, the alien AI in Alien Isolation is better designed than the monster AI in Amnesia the Bunker. The alien is much more unpredictable. But the Bunker monster is on your ass constantly, so much so that it gets more annoying than scary. As soon as it seems to go away, it is back a minute later. This is true even if you are not making any noise for it to hear. I think the developers went overboard on its aggressiveness and prevents the game from being as scary as intended.

Awesome video tysm!! I can't think of any games but I think the level in halo 1 called "The Library". That was a definite hunted level. But once you get the shotgun its such a fun level, to just unload on them is almost cathartic lol

The Grayhill incident you all never talked about that one upon its release. It's so undertated and it's a good experience of being hunted by an alien invasion and such an easy combination of trophys/achievements.

I would add Dead Space too, the limited resources and the surprise attacks always make you feel on the edge and afraid of turning every corner

Manhunt is pretty much another one. One helluva cult classic! And the best part is that you are also a hunter.

How is Demento (Haunting Ground in US market I think) not on the list

Alien Isolation is on another level among all of these games ! The feeling beeing alone in space is just insane in that game. If you didn’t play, go do it now !!! It’s my all time favorite first person game with metro exodus

Sir you are being hunted is an indie gem. Story was awesome. It’s a very depressing atmosphere it throws you in and it definitely plays a role in the feeling of unease the game gives you

There are two games I know that aren't "being hunted" games, but have these chase moments that made me soooo tense: Half Life 1 and the first Mirror's Edge. In both, you're being chased by these ninjas or something, and you're running, and you can hear the pitter patter on their feet behind you...

Honourable Mentions: "Clock Tower", "Haunting Ground", "White Day: A Labyrinth named School".

Haunting Ground! You are constantly being stalked by one main bad guy through each quarter of the game. They can find you almost anywhere, it’s mostly unscripted, and they can react to your foot steps and loud noises! Never quite safe.

[PROTOTYPE] deserves a spot. the military is always out to get you and the closer you get to the end more sensitive the creatures are to your presence and will start chasing you down which will make the military chase you down as well. it's really chaotic the further into the story you get and we love it for it.

Playing alien isolation for the first time was a slow burner,but when it kicks in and the end oh my the end it was so intense,it was brilliantly executed from start to finish,loved it. And so tru to the movies feel.

Can't say enough good things about Isolation, absolute underrated game that needs a sequel. Loved everything about the game and have completed it multiple times because it's so much fun and scary (to me).

i always loved the game Folklore Hunter for that premise they give you motion detection cameras and a safehouse for the night while you have a gun with limited ammo you search around the map for clues and supplies and get into the habit of running home as soon as it gets dark to your safehouse and then it just disappears and you are suddenly stranded in the forest with the monster stalking you and even during the day you can sometimes hear something moving behind you or hear branches crack it just sets such an uneasy and unsafe environment i love it and can only recommend it😁
