10 Great PlayStation Exclusive JRPGs! | Backlog Battle

This channel has a fitting name. My backlog has been empty for years, and now in a few days time I have dozens of JRPGs to battle through.

BREATH OF FIRE MENTIONED LET'S GOOOOOO!! This also made me realize that Odin Sphere has been playable on every PlayStation platform aside from PSP since it's 2006 release, which is wild, but also awesome! Of course, me being me, I have to bring up the Wild ARMs series. While 4, 5 and Alter Code f haven't been rereleased at all, the first three are on all modern PlayStation platforms!

Rogue Galaxy is one of the most underrated RPGs I ever played. It has everything you could want. Fun combat, amazing music, likeable characters and Will Friedle.

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines is one of the best JRPGs Sony ever made. It's so unique with a beautiful artstyle. Hopefully we get a remaster someday. The remake of the first Oreshika game came to PS5 in Japan.

Persona 1, 2 innocent sin and eternal punishment are also to this day playstation exclusives and I really hope they get hd 2d remakes some day.

Rogue Galaxy was such a good game. One of Level 5s best. No doubt. It’s been a game I’ve been crossing my fingers would get a remaster or remake.

All games in this list deserve a remake I would like to add: 1. Koudelka, just like shadow hearts it was more darker and had a different battle style, more tactical. 2. Legend of legaia 1 and 2, had a fighting style similar to xenogears with inputs that trigger combo attacks. 3. Arc the Lad, I think it has 4 parts and is a tactical rpg saga 4. Drakengard... OK that game is different and dark doesn't even begin to describe it. But it's the game that started nier and Nier Automata. 5. xenosaga... when you finished xenogears, you got hit with an end of episode 5, and people were confused. Then we got xenosaga, which should start from the very beginning, and I would love to get the whole story that was planned

I think PS1 games that used 2D Sprites with 3D backgrounds art style like BoF3-4, DQ7, or Xenagears to name a few games all aged much more gracefully than games like FF7-9 or Legend of Dragoon.

Sadly the old pre-rendered backgrounds look fairly blurry on modern displays, but there have been some fan efforts to clean them up and let me tell you, they look absolutely fantastic. I recommend looking up the Moguri Mod for FF9, absolutely beautiful.

Shoutout to Freedom Wars on the PS Vita. Remaster releases in January 2025 on multiple platforms so finally almost free, but as of right now, probably my favorite Sony exclusive. Basically Orwell’s 1984 meets Neon Genesis: Evangelion with a dash of Attack on Titan inspired-gameplay.

This list will be more shorter as we go as some remake or reboot becomes avaliable to other systems... for GOOD REASONS. Which i also hope games from other previous platforms will be made available as well. (Radiant Historia, EarthBound, Terranigma, Skies of Arcadia, Golden Sun & Lost Odyssey) Good list! As for other Sony Exclusive JRPG should at least be honorable mentions are: Brave Fencer Musashi, Thousand Arms, Vandal Hearts, Alundra, MS Saga: A New Dawn, Wild Arms, Arc the Lad series, Dark Cloud 1&2, BoF4, Suikoden V, & Resonance of Fate to name a few.
