I didn’t think 2013 was the worst decision to have John Cena win given the story they were wanting to tell which was a redemption arc after a bad 2012 for Cena (which yes should have included him losing to Lesnar ). Not sure who else in 2013 would have been a good choice to win it. Likewise I wasn’t fussed about sheamus winning in 2012 since Jericho went on to face CM Punk anyways at Mania and without sheamus vs Daniel Bryan , no “yes movement”. 2017 was at least unpredictable as to who was going to win given the people in the match even if Randy Orton was an underwhelming winner. Brock's performance had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Edge not only returned, but performed amazingly. Rollins comes in completely set up to win again, strolling in at #30 with his disciples in tow. Roman and Drew being the final two (as well as the two rumored to win it) and Drew winning it is just a cathartic moment. Plus, it was the last big PPV pre-pandemic, so it just reminds me of better times when we still had hope for 2020.

Thank you for the praise shown towards the 2018 Rumble Adam, it's a personal favourite of mine for all the reasons you stated but also for reasons outside the Rumble itself; myself and a few friends often talk about wrestling and sometimes when we watch matches together we predict/take bets on who will win. During the 2018 Rumble season, I was the only one of my friends who had bets on Nakamura and Asuka winning their respective Rumbles. They all thought there was no way WWE would have them both win, maybe one but not both; the looks on their faces when they were proven wrong on all fronts, it was very gratifying indeed! I really liked the 2016 Royal Rumble. From AJ Styles's debut, to Owens' dragging himself to the ring selling the Last Man Standing opener, to Sami Zayn's return, to Dean Ambrose being crazy over. Triple H winning wasn't as satisfying as Ambrose, but it was still well-received by the crowd. I just loved that final 2, Ambrose was so over then, and I remember the feeling of "ooooohhh HERE we go, it's ON". 2018 was better though, I felt this tension through my entire body during the final 2 that I had never felt before, it was incredible. I also came up huge for the returns of Mysterio and The Hurricane. But the Nakamura win sums up this philosophy that Al Snow has shared. In his class called "What's a pop?", he mentions that the term pop comes from 'pop a nut'-to come. The point of a 'pop' in wrestling is to make the fans emotionally come, and that was how I felt when Nakamura won. I was done for the night, nothing would've topped it. It's a sin that that rumble was in the midcard and was followed by a bloody Kane match.

2004 and 2009 were great rumbles too imo. 2004 will always be overlooked because of who won. 2009 had Randy Orton in peak heel mode win in another stacked rumble. Some great moments in that match too, Jim Duggan returned to a massive pop, and Jerichos smug grin after an elimination turning to horror when he realises the Undertaker is stood behind him.

I loved the 2021 Royal Rumble.. Don't know about other People but 2021 is my #1.. The hype going in was just Crazy with soo many Favourites.. Carlito and Christians return was amazing, Edge announcing his entry made sense after the Rumble, Bryan was just Great going in this Rumble, Riddle lasting a loong time and the impressive sequences against Rollins and Bryan towards the end was Awesome.. Before the Rumble Jay White said he Quit NJPW and he could have appeared at the Rumble.. It was Just Great Man.. Every Superstar in the Rumble was a Former Champion and half of the people were Possible Top 3s..

2010, 2018 and 2020 was the most fun I've ever had watching a rumble. Weird that the 2019 one slots right in the middle of those two outstanding rumbles and that it is pretty standard, unmemorable rumble booking

At least got the payoff of Seth Rollins being the beast slayer and ending 2 years of Brock showing up every so often leaving Raw with no consistent world champion

WWE in the last three years have actually figured out again how to book the royal rumble, and I must say well done WWE.

I've always thought 2001 was the best rumble, but honestly I think 2020 topped it. 3 of the biggest rumble pops ever with the Lesnars elimination, Edge's return and Drew winning. It's perfect in every way, great story telling start to finish and anyone over the age of 20 had to hold back the tears at Edges face as he came through the smoke. It had everything

The 2020 Rumble is proof that when Bork shows up to work he's one of the best.

Finally a moment where I can say I was there. The 2019 rumble was my first ever event of any kind in person. The Becky chants were real and you got caught in the moment
A top 10 that could be done is a list of the Final 4 (or 2) in the Royal Rumble

Love that you included Becky’s win. Such a feel good ending.

They included the women's rumble because people might think there sexist of something

The best, and most underrated thing about the 2018 men's rumble is that Byron Saxton had more success in picking one man (Shinsuke) than Jerry "The King" Lawler did in picking pretty much half the field.

The Nakamura win.... That was a great feeling. I forgot how good that rumble was. I always go back to 2001 as the best... But that also has nostalgia glasses on with one

Gotta roll with 1992. You could argue there were better matches but Heenan elevated that match into GOAT status.

Can confirm that the Becky Lynch pop was wild. Wish it would have been the main event but they did the Nia bullocks.

Im way late but IMO 01 was the best. Had a lot of variety to it, a cheesy celeb moment, pops to the top stars were great especially (Rock&Austin) but the matches leading up to the Rumble were all mostly fun.

I always find it satisfying when a recent Rumble ends up somewhere on top 'cause i can say, i've seen it live😎

totally agree on some of the placements on this list. when you take the match as is, when you put it with the payoff a couple of spots do flip around. my number 11 aka honorable mention is the 2011 match with the 40 man version. as it was a lot of fun and all the extra things you can do with 10 extra people. yea it was a bit of over kill but i do like it when they want to put a spin on the match here or there.
