My little brother got a pair of JMKs and let me try them and I was instantly hooked. My own pair came this week and I’m starting to get the hang of it - I can’t remember the last time that I was this pumped about anything. Most fun I’ve had in years!

I just got a pair of the real Freeskates from JMK. I was not able to skate well on the cheap one. But I decided to get the real one and now I can skate much better than before. A poor workman blames his tools. But since I am a poor workman now, I really needed a good set.

Geez guys where have you been we need more uploads. Also I really need another video talking about how to T-slide. Specifics and if it work on any road or ridable surface

Great suggestion, we’ll look into updating that one soon! 🤙

The habit of working with the whole body, and not just with the legs, came from the experience of pumping on a longboard. On a longboard, you have to work with your whole body to go uphill. Therefore, for me, previous experience of pumping on a longboard turned out to be very useful. And you need to immediately understand that if you don’t work with your whole body, you won’t get far - you’ll get tired quickly, your ankles will roar :) Thanks guys, great and useful video! Good luck to everyone!

As someone who doesn’t know how to longboard, this is some great insight! Thanks for the comment 😄

Here's my main question though - i can't affort JMK's but i have $50 offbrand skates, but the deck seems pretty long compared to JMK's. Do you think this will negatively impact my learning experience for pumping, or just getting from point A to point B in general?
@jmkride5 ай бұрын
I think it just comes down to comfort! If you feel the skates are working for you, I’d say use them to practice until you (possibly) make the upgrade down the road! Without context of your skates, I’m not sure the size of deck will negatively impact comfort, except for when the deck is on the smaller side, creating a pain point in your arches. When it’s a bit larger like the JMKs or maybe some other knockoffs, there is less potential for discomfort strictly from deck size. Of course, the rest of the skate plays a role. Hope that answers your question! TLDR, if your current skates are comfy for you, keep going until it’s time to switch things out!

First of all, thank you for all video, they have helped me a lot! I would really appreciate if you can explain to me how to do a 1 foot power slide, or maybe post another video about that(i know that you have already posted a video like that but it was Really short and didn't explain much). Thank you very much.

I got the OG Freelines 12yrs ago. Just got back on them again recently, I'm a big ass 6'5'' dude and your videos are helping me lose some of it and get better. I'm probably gonna get Proformance wheels here pretty soon. Keep up the good work! *Something I noticed that I will try and maybe would be a good video to explain is the way you jacked your foot sideways to start from a dead stop.

Great to hear you’re back on the skates! 👏 I’m honestly not sure when I held up a pair of Freelines and called it a knockoff. So it’s clear, Freelines are not and have never been knockoffs to us. They are the OG pro freeskates. It’s when they are knocked off that the quality goes way down. Truth is, authentic Freelines are hard to find. They haven’t been produced for a long time, so anything claiming to be name brand, or ripping the design, is a knockoff. Now, when compared to Freelines, we prefer the JMKs as they are the direct successor and an improvement on design and quality. Hope that all makes sense! Love the suggestion for a video - Thanks for pointing that out! Will look into making that. Good luck with your skating 🤙

Love your commentary, Gabe! This is one of my favourite videos, but is there an alternative to the fisheye lens? It doesn't depict the terrain you ride in well and makes it hard to gauge your speed, technique, and surroundings. I'm not complaining, it's a genuine question. Maybe a GoPro strapped onto your chest or helmet? Crazy, but maybe even one pointing down towards your feet Picture-in-Picture style

Love the feedback, thank you! Yeah we’ve gotten a fair bit of comments about the 360 camera format… trying to film more of our videos on a regular camera nowadays :) The picture-in-picture is something I haven’t tried but it’s a great idea!

Beginner here. I've been discovering same thing Gabe talks about when trying and retrying a challenging geography the way boulderers work on "problems". Also like Tao's suggestion to skate through odd balance situations. Q: does practicing pumping with one leg alone then the other help even out the full pump?
@jmkride5 ай бұрын
I’d say yes it helps a lot! That way your attention is 100% focused into one skate. It might be difficult and feel like you’re forcing the ‘problem skate’ at first, but it’ll be worth the effort. Another way of framing this - There are no rules to freeskating. Sometimes, if I’m just being playful, I may just use one leg as I’m flowing, and then switch it to the other, and then move to using both legs. So maybe without even noticing, this is something I do 7 years into freeskating 😃

I'm guilty about neglecting my back leg, now progress train to balance it. Also need help with bending knee, any exercise to help with? since my legs only stay bend few minutes before I automatically go back to stiff stand. Can't do switch since my leg still unbalance. I try, but best I can do is 5m before bail out. My skates area have not smooth surface so I need pump harder & kinda challenging as beginner since there's no hill to learn at first, but I made it with lot of effort lol.
