Having now been to the sacred hallowed halls of JMK I can say unequivocally these guys are genuinely good souls and threw open the doors to a couple of out-of-town visitors! They generously shared their exuberance of Free Skates and the community surrounding them. I can cross this off my bucket list of places and people I wanted to meet. Matt and Jeff (and the rest of the staff there) were super welcoming and friendly but I was especially impressed by Pearl appropriately named because this talented young man is a gem of a guy. Everyone was super super cool! I highly recommend if your in the area of San Diego stop by and visit the gang at JMK! On a side note just happened to be Thursday skate at the local park so we showed up for that too. OMG Epic fun! What a treat to actually get to hang out and skate with the crew! Yay!!! JMK I’m happy, honored and proud to have rolled with you and I can’t wait to get back to San Diego and do it again Peace!

I've been skating for about 3 years and FE F4 was my first skate. I really enjoyed the build quality of the boot/hardware and look.Their sealed stock bearings are great and have outlasted some of my pricey bearings.The Flying Eagle liner is also great. Both the shell and liner need to break in but really mold well to your foot, comfortable and supportive with awesome power transfer.

I enjoyed the race. As someone that inlines now and then, I definitely know how fast you can go on those. It seemed the speeds evened out more once past the first stretch. I will say that you feel like you are going faster on free skates. Not sure if that's the side angle that causes that perception. Gabe on inlines was pure comedy!
@jmkride2 жыл бұрын
Both go very fast in their own right! Interesting observations. Yeah, Gabe will be sticking to freeskating 😂
@Toxic0N32 жыл бұрын
@@jmkride Rollerblades intended for speed tend to use the larger wheels 80mm are for casual street use or parks normally. If you wanna see what they can do rock a set with the 110-125mm they're significantly faster. Bearings make a huge difference as well. Ceramics will perform crazy on anything with wheels.
@chrisb33892 жыл бұрын
@@jmkride I thought about it more and I think part of why free skates feel faster is the lower center of gravity. Between the wheels and frame that holds them and the boot cushioning and such on blades, I feel I'm much higher up on them. It reminds me of a small Hyundai car a buddy had way back that was super low to the ground. When we'd drive on the freeway, I'd feel like we were going a thousand miles an hour. :)

it never occurred to me, that because we have stronger front to back stabilization, you don't need ankle support in the same way you do on an inline skate.

You guys should try out the Dragan Board. They’re a small company that makes streetboards/snakeboards.
@danielreitermusic2 жыл бұрын
I second this. Dragan boards are related to freeskates in a similar way to inline vs. quad skates. Simon Johns from the Dragan team lives in San Diego. Maybe JMK could do a collaboration with them?

There are pros and cons to both, but from 0 XP to "look at me, I can do this". Freeskates is probably easier to pick up. Once you're comfortable with turning and stopping on both rollerblades are much better to use, but you get more flexibility with freeskates since you can just jump off and pack them down, rollerblades are more cumbersome. So like if you're only using them for transportation, why not use a bike? If you're only using them for fun and tricks, then you wouldn't mind them being harder to bring along, rollerblades are just the better option.

Unfortunately, most sidewalks here in Germany are not as advanced as elsewhere, such ramps are an absolute exception here. At most, there are such in the economic centers of the larger cities. It's a shame, so it's not really worth using Freeskates to get around here. I'm still a bit too cautious to skate on the street with Freeskates.
@jmkride2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that! Freeskating in the streets definitely takes getting used to - If you do give it a try, take it slow so you can get to know your limits!

Kind of mad that the guy did a soul stall on free skates. Would be cool to see them try some aggressive skates and show them a bit more the traditional methods of how to use them (aka stalling on the H block and not on the wheels sideways like a god damn mad man).

Haha, we were definitely working with what we were given! Mattie is crazy. We could do “Freeskaters try aggressive inline” or something!

Flying 🦅 it's not bad but is focused on urban/fitness skates. Of course you can drop in a fuck around on ramps but if you are trying to grind a stuf you need agrressive skates... And also rocking the wheels gives u more turning advantage but that's not what you want in a half pipe.... Those 🦅 are more like the equivalent to a cruise longboard in the inline realm..... In case you wanted to know....
@jmkride2 жыл бұрын
It would be fun to experiment with actual aggressive inline in the future, for sure. Doing what we can with what we’ve been given here 😂 Thanks for all the info!

Firstly, wow you’re all really good on blades considering it’s not your main “thing”. Secondly, I had no idea you could pump free skates that well/fast off the mark. You guys should have done a “rolling start” comparison. Blades will still win, but it might be closer & more fairer to free skates.
@jmkride2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that! That would be an interesting race

The only change I would edit in this awesome presentation about roller blades was the bit about suggesting students would be the primary market for rollerblades. If you correctly remember, the preferred choice for transportation of university students is their own car and if that's not available then all of the prestige goes to the all terrain bicycle. Rollerblades are a niche product for the enthusiast market with a preferred take as the speediest pedestrian movement, where freeskates exist as the smallest product line that reminds of finger skateboards...but for the feet. As for my own personal choice, I would go with the rollerblades for when I would like to enjoy froyo across town and with a hot date hopefully wearing a flappy skirt 👋😄 #mudflaps_model
@jmkride2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, both slightly different markets, but there’s some overlap! Personally as freeskaters, we LOVE using them for street skating and flowing through a city, for example. Rollerblades are perfect for that too, totally get what you’re saying. Happy to hear it works for you 🤙
@MarcelRules2 жыл бұрын
Its so funny to see you guys on inline skates, probably i would look the same on a pair of freeskates. In you wan't more agility on inline skates you should try "banana rocker" 76 mm wheels on the back and front of the skates and 80mm on the middle. Maybe next time try agressive skates and try to learn grinds. 😄✌️
@jmkride2 жыл бұрын
We were fortunate to have Flying Eagle send us these. In this case we didn't choose the model. Jeff actually has a pair of aggressive skates so he had to get used to these. Some of us haven't been on blades since childhood. We had a lot of fun!

Not sure what you’re referring to here! We were saying, the way rollerblades are attached is straightforward. With freeskates, it’s very possible to “attach” incorrectly by placing your feet at the wrong angle 👍
