Both of my grandmothers and my mother were elegant, fashionable ladies with impeccable classic taste. I don't think I ever saw them wear jeans, athletic wear or sneakers. They often switched the buttons on items to brushed or matte metals that look expensive. They taught me to wear only natural fabrics such as silk, cotton, linen, wool, cashmere and leather. Such a valuable life lesson!

I had a wool/poly blend coat that I swapped out the plastic buttons for metal ones which were engraved with a generic shield/crest emblem. Instantly made the coat look like it was $100. People have asked where I got the coat and did not believe me when I told them it was $35 on clearance at Target, and that I spent 10 min sewing on $8 worth of buttons to upgrade the look. My next coat will be all wool, tea length and I'm going to sew it myself. That way I can get a perfectly tailored coat with all those high end tailoring details for just the cost of fabric and buttons.

That's fantastic!!!! You should post photos and sell on etsy if you get a lot of compliments on it! If you're interested I think that would be great- people are willing to pay a decent price for something that is beautiful. You can package it nicely so it can feel like a gift to the buyer as well. Just an idea! :)

I agree with all the points mentioned by Anna... In fact, I try to invest only in expensive fabrics like silk or linen even if it means buying less because they last long and now i have a better wardrobe where I don't have to think a lot before wearing anything. So it saves time too. Also, the hack that i use is to buy such quality clothes from sale, so i shop twice or thrice a year only but have a better collection.

I don’t think I will EVER understand why people wear sweatpants out in public. And the only time I wear a hoodie out of the house is when I’m sick, and even that I’m trying to get away from, because I think it makes me look messy. I love that you mentioned NECKLINES! I can’t wear some necklines, due in part to my bust size. But honestly, most of what I learned about fashion (before I found your channel) I learned from my grandmother. She was a very classy lady, and the older I’ve gotten, the more she’s become my role model in many ways! I’m sure she would be thrilled to see my journey to becoming more elegant. She taught me to sew, set a proper table, and gave me the very important advice of: “Don’t wear too much rouge.”

Modesty is essential for elegant dressing, I’ve always had a no-visible cleavage rule, I just prefer it, and a one of three rule: short, tight or revealing, I choose only one in an outfit, not all three. I love your tips, Anna. Your popularity has spawned so many imitators, mostly teenagers and those in their 20s, on YT. But, I value your ideas so much more because you are the only one who has actually worked hard to get all the qualifications and training that applies to an elegant lifestyle. I looked at a new “Elegance” channel the other day, her only qualifications were that she “helped over 1,000 women”, but at her age, she probably hasn’t even met than many women. Any creator can put together a few classic outfits, as we all can just at a glance, but the basic knowledge, experience and depth just isn’t there. I’m not going to support copycats, anyway. BTW, I think those earrings are too yellowish for your cool coloring, sorry.

I am in my 57th year, not your typical demographic, but I just had to thank you for highlighting the importance of elegance. Remember that money can't buy class, and etiquette is simply making others feel comfortable and bringing order, not a weapon of the mean-spirited with which to disparage others. My great-grandmother did not have the advantages of wealth, but she was a true lady, gracious and of refinement. (Sugar is refined. Ladies are of refinement, she always told me). My mother taught me to shop for garments at the Goodwill/charity shops in the affluent neighborhoods, and in the resort towns. I'm from the Mid-Atlantic region, where the money is older than the Constitution, by a century in some cases. One can find excellent furniture and interior decor in these shops, as well, especially at the resort areas, as there is a greater likelihood of beach house owners to redecorate frequently. I hope these tips from an old crone will serve you all well.

People rather use yoga pants and sweaters because you don't need to iron/steam them to wear them so is not only about being comfortable but also about low maintenance. Not that I agree with this, there is a reason I'm an avid Anna Bey follower, but that is the missing part on why people chose one over the other.

Lilysilk's silk bonnets come in different models and are absolutely fantastic to protect my fragile, fine hair at night.

Anna, you could make a video teaching us how to choose elegant clothes to wear at the gym!

A video on this would be very helpful! I always feel so uncomfortable in workout clothes.

I think she did do a video on that! If I can just reach into the deep recesses of my mind 👀

The visuals and angles emphasized every point made in this video! I loved it! I'm a long time viewer and noticed the change; made the message more direct and gave an example. Thank You Anna!

Better for your hair also

@@blackbutterfly233ify definatly. I've started putting my hair up in a silk scrunchie. It's not worth buying polyester now as it doesnt last, especially jumpers.

Oeps, have you even done a course in which coulour suits your skintype? The coulour of your dress is for autumn types and your not an autumn type at all! This coulour makes you older than you are. Love natural fabrics, btw.

Agree -- I think Anna is more spring type.

Over the decades, I have figured out that I prefer solid fabrics, scoop and V necklines, 3/4 to full length sleeves, and mid-rise pants. I live in a climate that gets to 115 degrees F during the summer. That causes every restaurant, store, and shop to blast the air conditioner until it is freezing cold inside. Many of us have to bring a light sweater along because it is uncomfortably chilly inside. We cannot wear skirts or longer shorts unless we also bring along a lap throw. So I wear lightweight pants during the summer.

I used to always wear fancy silk scarves with a suit for work and then someone made a comment that I look like a flight attendant lol . So I stopped wearing scarves

yassss I got so excited when Anna introduced the sponsorship for this video because honestly I don't remember she had any ads in her videos!!! Especially knowing how natural fabric is important to her, and silk is an amazing fabric to elevate your look with. Go Anna!! 😍😍😍 SO happy for you!!🥰

If you're going to wear slippery silks during the day, be careful to get something with the correct cut and fit. Otherwise people will be wondering who let you out of the house in a negligee.

Excellent point! Often times silk charmeuse like Anna prefers might benefit from wearing a slip underneath to make the garment look like street wear rather than lingerie.
@Anon-lg5rj2 жыл бұрын
exactly ! This is the difference I find between high end and streetwear . These silk pieces look like sleepwear.

Anna has stated before she likes “silk” and goes on to indicate silk charmeuse. Since all silk is not charmeuse, another video topic for her might be on different weaves of silk, discussing the weights of silk fibers and how weightier silk can look extremely elegant while inexpensive silk can look cheaper than certain brands of polyester. She consistently trains her viewers on the details that go into a polished presentation, so it would seem to be right up her alley.
