Everyone’s heard of Ghengis Khan, Adolf Hitler, Ted Bundy, and Jeffrey Epstein. But, sadly, history is filled with mass murderers, psychopaths, child abusers, tyrants, and dictators that you’ve probably never heard of. As delicious as it is to think of these power and fame-hungry monsters dying in obscurity - undoubtedly a fate worse than death for some of them - it is important to learn from their crimes, to make sure they can never be repeated. Let’s take a look at some historical bad guys you’ve probably never heard of.

This is not what I thought you meant from the title so thanks for that warning at the start. It saved me from seeing something that I probably did not want to see. There is a Hammer Horror film that uses the Elizabeth Bathory story, to create a violent tale, starring Ingrid Pitt. I know about most of these people. Idi Amin is a well known name to anyone who was alive in the 1970s, when he ruled Uganda.

There are a good amount of evidence to say that Gilles de Rais was innocent. He was young and his court was more luxurious than the king's. He spent fortunes on plays and free food for commoners, which is in contrast to his Brittany in-laws who spent generations focusing on saving and investing, and found his extravegant spending sickening. The Duke of Brittany even had an audience with the Pope claiming that Gille had an addiction to spending money. His family also met with the king for a royal decree stopping anyone from entering into a contract with Gille, claiming that Gille was going to spend all his money and that there wouldn't be anything left in his estate. This led to the Duke gaining control over Gilles possessions. The Duke had a clergyman guard Gilles favourite castle, leaving it empty and leaving Gille homeless. Gille wished to stay in it, so he kidnapped the clergyman but then letting him go, which further turned the nobility and church against him. He was incredibly powerful, popular with the peasants for his generosity and for being a war hero, and he could have raised an army if he wanted to, which scared the nobility. His family likely began the rumours that he had gone mad and was experimenting with occult alchemy and sold his soul to the devil. (Similar accusations in the medieval/renaissance period have been used on perceived enemies of Christendom, such as Jews, muslims and protestants, which i find telling) it would be easy for peasant parents to blame their kid's disappearance on a alleged satanic alchemist, CLAIMING he stole their child, despite unsepervised children vanishing all the time back then. He and all his friends denied these allegations, but these testimonies were conveniently left out of the trial. Gille and his friends only confessed under torture, and of course they did, studies have shown time and time again that torture victims will say anything to make the pain stop. No physical proof of this was presented. No bodies of children were discovered, not even any bone fragments. All evidence was circumstantial. After his execution, the Duke inherited all his land and possessions and divided it amongst his family. The Catholic church was also paid handsomely. evidence was found that Gille's corpse was not burned, as was standard practise for accused witches, but given a christian burial in secret at the church of Notre-Dame-des-Carmes which corroborates that the accusations of witchcraft and devil worship were made-up. There is evidence that the court transcripts were later altered, changing Gilles testimony to seem more over the top, adding more gruesome details to his supposed confession of murdering children. Among other bits of evidence that seems to support this being a case of framining and conspiracy.

Richard Pryor also satirized Idi Amin on his short-lived TV comedy show. He did a skit in which Amin goes on television to deny that he's the evil villain that the media has made him out to be. I only remember a few lines from the sketch. It begins with Pryor/Amin saying "My name is Idi Amin Dada. That's two 'd's, three 'a's (holds up a pistol), and one gun." Later on, he says "I love American people. I want to say, I had two for lunch." At the end, the voice of the moderator is heard to say, "I'm sorry, Mr. Amin, but your time is up," to which Amin replies "No, YOUR time is up!" He shoots the moderator, and continues talking.

As Karl said, I also appreciate the detail’s being excluded. I regularly watch True Crime videos, and have heard plenty of details, that I didn’t need to hear. I, of course, am a Sub of The Casual Criminalist, and as I’m sure you’re very aware of the fact that, occasionally Simon will skip over various sections of the story, stating that there is no intrinsic value for viewers to these hear details.
