You forgot about the St Louis Rams vs. Carolina Panthers. Down by 3, the Rams drove down inside the 10 with around a minute to go. Mike Martz didn't trust Bulger throwing the ball and basically let all the time run down, opting for a tying field goal and overtime, as opposed to going for the win (with all that time) right then and there.

@@JannikHaueisen : The play-call should never have been made, but Russ executed it perfectly. Poor interior route running by Ricardo Lockette caused the INT. And the consequences of that decision was devastating for Seattle. Not only did they lose a Super Bowl, they also lost the chances of becoming a dynasty. Many of the players grew critical of Wilson and Carroll and either left or retired. Marshawn Lynch was never the same after that because he would struggle the next season and immediately retired after that.
@santiagolozano31283 жыл бұрын
Oh god. For me the dumbest coaching decision in NFL history will ALWAYS be not giving the Ball to Marshawn.
@guyman98443 жыл бұрын
Look I didn’t agree with the field goal, but he did have a good reason for it. 1. There was still over two minutes left plus they had 3 timeouts 2. They hadn’t been able to capitalize off of the 2 fourth quarter interceptions with points, so they needed to show success 3. The defense had been amazing since the middle of the third quarter, forcing 3 back to back to back interceptions on Brady, so he obviously had trust. I personally woulda gone for it all the same
@askiny65762 жыл бұрын
those are actually good reasons for GOING FOR IT. If your defense is that good, you still have a good shot at winning the game, even if you fail the TD or the 2-pointer: Fail TD, you have Brady pinned in his own endzone. Fail 2 Points, you can make a stop and win it by just a FG.

I still have no idea why BB thought there was a better chance of converting a 4th and 13 compared to a 48-yard FG. I know Gostkowski was a rookie but if you don’t think your kicker can make a 48-yard FG indoors then he shouldn’t be your kicker. I mean really who passes up a 48-yard FG for a 4th and 13. That’s insane. And for a coach like BB to do that is absolutely ridiculous. You never pass up points.

The throw in super bowl 49 was definitely the worst call in playoff history.
@tylermccann8483 жыл бұрын
Okay, two quick things. One being the title perhaps should be "coaching decisions that didn't work out and may have cost the team a postseason game." Or maybe "decisions coaches made in the postseason they regret because it didn't work out" (to borrow Lefleur's words). The key is that it MAY have worked, but they ultimately didn't. I know that's not click-baity enough for TPS but it's more accurate. Almost all of these decisions I completely understand why the move was made, and the alternative result is purely speculative. Secondly, I was surprised at the time GB decided to kick the field goal. But with that being said, I think it's too high on this list, probably because of the recency bias. I think it's important to remember the sound reasoning behind it (3 time outs and the 2 min warning), it wasn't the SuperBowl, both defenses had incredible 4th quarters to that point, and that theoretically GB had enough time but got called for penalties. I also think you cannot discount the fact that GB was down by 8, meaning they would need a TD and and a 2pt conversion. They already tried a 2 pointer earlier in the game and it failed. Who is to say it wouldn't fail again, or that perhaps they should have taken the extra point earlier? It's all speculation. Not saying it should or shouldn't be on this list, but number 4 is way too high.

I don’t think it’s fair to criticize LaFleur for that decision. Rodgers had just done nothing with two Brady interceptions and the score should have been 31 - 25, but Butterfingers St. Brown dropped a perfect ball to fuck up the two point conversion. Meanwhile, his defense had just created 3 turnovers and held the Bucs to a FG. My money would have been on the defense creating a stop and saving any last minute miracle play for goal to go with :13 sec left.
