All you need to do is plug in your solar array using standard mc4 connectors and you will be up and running for your Airspool solar-powered air conditioner. We recommend approximately 1,500 watts of solar. Why? Because even though the running current may be only seven or 800 watts for much of the year, we want to be able to meet most or all of your heat load with solar on the hottest days of the year. Remember, on hot days, solar panels lose around .2% efficiency for every degree in Fahrenheit that they are above 77° Fahrenheit. And on a rooftop , the temperature may be 140° on the panels and hot regions like the Southwest. So you need to take that into account. Next, the compressor needs a lot more power in the summer to be able to have the refrigerant come into the condenser above the outside air temperature. so, maybe an efficient mini split needs a thousand or 1,100 watts on peak summer days. In the winter, there's a different set of problems. A good chunk of the photons from the sun are deflected by the atmosphere because the sun is at a lower angle of trajectory in the sky than in the summer, so there are fewer watts per square meter hitting your solar panels. so, panel up! If you are in a cooler area such as Coastal California where the temperatures don't fluctuate as much, you can get by with a bit less. #offgrid #mrcool #solarminisplit
