One more comment: BPD, along with the vast majority of other mental conditions, are NOT life sentences. Often just a tap on the shoulder that we need to change direction in our lives. Really helpful, Maddie.

Thanks for sharing these tips! I'm so proud of you for making it this far in your journey. Oftentimes it's so hard to believe that BPD is not a life sentence but you are literally the prove that it isn't.

This is such a good video idea. I’ve been in therapy on and off for almost 10 years now, and have never clicked with a therapist until I found my current therapist. It turns out I have complex ptsd, and because my symptoms are so severe, I’ll probably be in therapy for the rest of my life. But honestly, I think everyone should go to therapy at least once a month if they have the ability to. I’ve used and taught my therapists self-soothing and confrontation techniques to people in my life, and realized that no matter if you experience mental illness or not, practicing to regulate and communicate your emotions regularly can make you a much better person.

Anything better than catching up on maddie vids in the bath✌🏽 #selfcare One thing I’m trying to come to terms with is that not all services/staff you work with will be the same. I had a bad experience with CAMHS that broke my trust in professional help (especially NHS) but now I have a MH nurse who is there for me and works with me properly, so I have to accept that and let her help me in order to make the most out of the work we do! There are good people out there💕

05:40 that’s exactly what I get, and I only recognise they’re wrong thoughts the day after // when I switch to another state. Urgh my personality is a disorder 🤣 thanks for speaking out Oh god I also know what my BPD started (at least roughly). It’s really annoying knowing what happened yet you can’t change it

Is it unhealthy to use humour to cope with your mental health? For me my coping mechanisms are a mix of using self deprecating/dry humour, overeating, especially candy because the sugar kind of gives a pleasant sensation that I wouldn't nesescarily get if I was having a bad mental health day, doing art and crying or expressing my emotions although much less often than I used to do, when I didn't care what people thought about wether I was weak or strong, because now even if I'm having a very difficult day I will still hold back tears and i think that's come from knowing that a lot of people cope with their mental health using humour and that makes me feel like does it make you any weaker if your way of coping is to let yourself cry rather than being someone who every time they have a dark thought they use humour to cope with it. Because sometimes people say that it's a sign of emotional maturity/strength to be able to laugh at yourself and I don't know if that also means the same with mental health. I feel very suppressed to be honest I feel like if I don't cry I'm doing something wrong and if I am crying I'm doing something wrong

Hey Maddie, thank you for excellent video once again! Can I ask you, how often did you see your therapist during the first years of your therapy? You said that you see him now monthly, but did you see him earlier weekly or more often? I'm thinking about starting therapy and if once a week would be enough.
@themaddiebruce

Hiya, yes I saw him weekly in the beginning then fortnightly and then down to every month!

I hope this isn't too much to ask but I have been watching a few of your videos and I was wondering something. Could you give advice even in chat, on how to hide fresh cuts? Mine are in the lower arm and I have a dance competition in about two weeks. I really can't have anyone see them. I'm pretty young to being doing this and I want to stop it but I really want to know how to cover it. Does anybody have advice? I can't use any accessories so if there's anything as far as makeup for fresh cuts I would love to hear it. I've also subscribed if that helps.

Hi, if u want to cover up cuts on your lower arm then u could use hair bands or bracelets. But if u r still quite young and u r self harming u need to tell someone. I am 14 and I have been self harming for over 3 years now and a couple of weeks ago I told someone and although it was really difficult and scary, it really helped me. Remember that people r always there for u and love u.
