I would have to replace the VTEC with Nissan's SR20VE. It has that "deeper" sound after the VVL change over takes place, unlike the Honda's "raspiness". Unfortunately that engine was never sold here, but fortunately it is available in the aftermarket. It was never guilty of sounding like a fart can, with an aftermarket muffler, or lacking tourque.

just a heads up the viper v10 shares no parts with the dodge magnum truck v10. The viper motor was developed when chrysler had brief ownership of lamborghini in the late 80's, and were able to get some test mules from italy.

One of the best factoids of the Carrera GT is that the engine is an actual Porsche engine. Not a derived engine from Audi like in the 918. I like the 918 but the Carrera GT was truly Porsche!

It's exhaust noise though....Take a stock RS4 and compare that against the (im assuming Armytrix) one at 4:25. Exhaust makes a world of difference.

I'm a chevy person but i have seen good things from ford. However they're nothing compared to engines like the sr20 or 2jz. If you disagree with 100+ horsepower from an l4 vs 800 or so a supercharged v8 you're a special kind of stupid.

All I've seen in 3 episodes is "these are all the videos with engines making noise we could find". Then again, there's no scale or count down, thankfully. What i would like to see, is a collection of "these are the classic engines, that enthusiasts love and worship" ... not included for making gazillions of Hp or lots of noise, just being the all time classics, like: 3.6 liter Porsche boxer engine, not the 3.4 or 4.0. Or the Chevy small block and LS because they're good engines ... not the big block just "coz it makes more powa!" Also the BMW 2.5 liter inline six, because it's a classic and such an all around good engine. I'm sure there are more, certainly at least a couple of 4 cylinder designs or one of Mazda's rotary engines, but i couldn't name a classic and i'm not gonna Google it just to sound like an all around expert on engines. There's still no need for a rating, engines are like religion except for how most enthusiasts tend to acknowledge good engineering, regardless of origin or configuration..

Hemi has dominated the world of engines, until GM/Holden corp released the new LSX series of engines. Now the new LT1 is just one of the most amazing marvels in modern machinery ever made. 6.2 litre that isnt even being pushed, 455hp/455tq.
