1. You don’t apologize for who you are, justify, rationalize, overly explain, or defend yourself frequently. 2. You don’t need to force an agenda onto others. Live and let live. 3. A narc's WORST NIGHTMARE is targeting someone who's already won against another one who tried: my mother married an overt, who demanded "homage" and growing up was a series of hard lessons that I took with me when I LEFT AT 15. The covert found out real quick, much to their degrunge, that I was really good at short-circuting their attempts "without loosing it"... seething rage only accelerated their mistakes... & I weaponized every one of them... So the only revenge avenue left was "schoolyard bullying gang tactics"... & they tried... BIG TIME: FLYING CHIMPS EVERYWHERE!!! *****STANDING UP TO A BULLY IS THE BOTTOM LINE WITH A NARC***** & my childhood taught me how to do that too. The narc usurps your mental perception of YOURSELF, & IF you allow it, rewires your thinking about yourself in subservient frames, not unlike a dictator: ANY reaction is considered success to them, so you shut down the reaction... I became so good at it that as a child, I was beaten bloody & never uttered a sound... Not a tear!!!... So the covert was done before they started!!! Their fixation to extract revenge consumes their every action, so DESTRUCTION of my reputation became the go-to. The covert again miscalculated badly: I NEVER CARED about "opinions" so walking away from every last chimp didn't phase me... It's called DOORSLAM!!!... & DECADES LATER, THAT DOOR IS FUSED. ...& I took my sanity & self-respect with me!!! Regarding "family," ask yourself "IF you were NOT blood-related to them, would you still associate with them???" THERE is your answer. You have ZERO CONTROL over what anyone else thinks, says, or does... ***BUT YOU DO HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL OVER HOW YOU CHOOSE TO RESPOND TO IT.*** SELF LOVE BEGINS RIGHT THERE.💜

I'd go stay with someone or take a vacation for a week or two -> by myself! Lol. Lots of wives/moms go on strike with that type of controlling mental abuse. Just ask YT, lol! It's a real thing. Abuse is both cyclical and hierarchical. The controlling person starts out with grinding down your mental. Picture a 20' ladder, with the steps that go up. The abuser steps it up to yelling, then a slammed door, then pounding on a table or countertop, then clenching their fists and standing closely over you, then striking you, then with a fist or twisted arm. The top rung of the ladder is murder. Keep calling them out. Google it. I escaped with my life. Dr. C knows of what/which he speaks. Can you get some marriage counseling? Many Church and online platforms out there. Google is free, borrow books from the Library? Hehehe... the abuser may actually read a few paragraphs from the book... and see themselves... as in - in the mirror. In the meantime, you're on the path to healing, and being able to recognise the signs that Dr. C addresses, right? Best wishes, hugs, love and prayers from somewhere near Seattle.

I've always 'tried' the "choose my attitude' path and 95% of the time it works. I choose to be happy or at least contented with life. Why? Because I have seen so many people with the opposite path. They blame and shame other's for their decisions. I am 64 and know that life is always going to throw you a curveball or two,(or a LOT more) but let it go. I also have had a chronic medical condition since the age of 14. I can't and won't let that direct my life. The other thing I know is, we can't choose our relatives, but thankfully WE CAN choose our friends. The friends I have, I've had for almost all my adult years. The relatives, well....you can only do so much there.

I am trying to change my reactions. It definitely caused my children to estrange themselves from me. They would see me yell at someone; I think that made them lose respect for me. Nothing has propelled me more towards change than the estrangement of my children. Yelling has not been an everyday occurrence. But it may have been a once every couple of months occurrence. I would like to add: 11) POSITIVE INTROSPECTION... It is necessary sometimes, especially in the face of CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, to evaluate what was said within it's context, NOT to take it personally, but to examine those words as a possible improvement pathway that just maybe wasn't considered prior. In doing so, you actually re-evaluate the reasoning behind the prior actions. 12) SELF-CARE... I can almost tell the mindset of an individual by how they present themselves: someone dressed poorly in dirty clothes, in need of a shower, who fires sharp words & glares at the slightest of comments is clearly agitated, & is definitely not having an enjoyable day... Someone in an expensive suit, clean-shaven, absorbed in some "thought-stack," who inadvertently trips into you, but immediately apologizes is focused on something other than the present, while clearly able to accept their own responsibility... Another simply dressed, but smiling & cheerful to those around them presents a balanced accepting demeanor that is easy for most to be around. Take care of YOURSELF properly. Eat good food. Get enough rest. Take pride in how you look, especially when you leave the house. I got back into my "mood dressing" once I weakened the trauma bond, doing my nails, setting my hair... & ALL of THAT further helped snap what residual trauma bond remained. First impressions COUNT & the first evaluation anyone makes is solely on how you look & how you conduct yourself. It all contributes to stable confidence... Lastly... SMILE...especially at the beauty all around in this world. That gorgeous rose... that tiny baby... the construction guy "doing the 2-step" to get his next piece of lumber... are all telling you that life at that instant is BEAUTIFUL... and it all hugs you mentally...if you let it... So SMILE BACK!!! I smile every chance I get... & you'd be surprised how fast just THAT can orchestrate a "change the channel" in your thinking...💜
