I wanted a white kitchen, so I got one. Then I wanted a beautiful wood-cabinet kitchen, so I got one of those. . . . after that I wanted my white one back. Turns out I just like change. Decorating is fun! As for the wooden beads; my bet is the same people who display beads also turn their books backwards! Thanks Garrett!!

My favorite kitchen of all time was the huge vintage kitchen/dining room in Moonstruck. Lots of light/white and a giant table with room for everyone to congregate in the kitchen while still leaving room for cooking & cleaning. Way too many open or exposed shelves, though. I would want all the cabinets closed except for a very few cabinets (one or two) with glass doors to display antique & hand-made items, such as woven baskets & ceramics.

We stayed at a beautiful hotel in England years ago that had renovated its bathrooms to include partially enclosed showers, that is, with a half glass wall. Needless to say, water went everywhere. I couldn’t imagine what housekeeping thought! I ended up cleaning the bathroom after every shower. No reduction in room rate was offered. It has to be one of today`s more ridiculous design trends, along with open kitchen shelving. Great video, Garrett, thank you!

I think some of those are hotel rooms retrofitted with half glass for accessibility reasons. The existing floor slopes the wrong way though so the whole bathroom floor gets wet and slippery so you have to mop it up with towels to avoid getting your feet wet or slipping.

Open shelves are just not my thing. I imagine dirt, grime, grease and spider webs that aren’t even there! I DO have the beads, but they indeed have a purpose! Mine are rosaries that my family collected from their travels. All colors, some stone, crystal, natural things, or handmade beads. I actually prefer an all white kitchen, because my kitchen is tiny, and white is great when it’s easy to clean. I love that you’re so inclusive in your ideas, Garrett. This channel is great!

I went from a "white kitchen" that had white cabinets and appliances, to one that is a lighter maple, with stainless steel appliances and very light beige (almost off white) countertops plus white floors. It previously had brown counters and floors. It actually looks lighter now even though it has less white elements in it.

Here's why I got rid of our glass tub enclosure: I had my 2 year old grandson in the tub for a bath. He didn't want to come out. So he scooted to the side where the glass was closed. I slide open that glass and he scoots to the other side where the glass was now closed (laughing diabolically). This goes on for several rounds. Meanwhile Grandma's (me) back is giving out. Glass doors gone, shower curtain in place.

I don't have a white kitchen. I have gray cabinets. When I moved in to this house, almost every wall was painted a pale mint color, and I didn't hate it. But I immediately painted two rooms and I've painted more over the past year. My kitchen is now an ochre color, "Turner Yellow"--the name sold me! I'm going to paint those gray cabinets this year, mainly bc they're painted with latex and it's chipping off (ugh). I'm painting them a dark green that's almost black.

I'm sick of trendy lighting in general but specifically sputnik lights. I feel like a lot of people get them because they think they're fun and quirky but at this point they're so over done that they're actually kind of boring. Plus there are so many unique vintage and antique lights out there that I don't understand why anyone would go to a big retail store to buy the same "unique" light that everyone else is buying. This idea of something being considered unique and quirky while also being a trend that tons of people are doing is so odd to me.

If the place is mid century then fine. Or if you work for NASA or if your kid loves star wars. I love antiques but get why from a manufacturing and marketing point of view, they aren't going to make tons of one offs. Bad business model .we've got to move these refrigerators, we've got to move these color tv's. Getting the pulse of peoples wants. I like chandeliers, and they still make them and I like vintage shopping but you may have to rewire a lamp to code.

What I hate the most is all stone countertops. If we drop any glass, it breaks into pieces in addition to the maintenance of some. It's really not the best option I think for countertop. The second thing I hate are all ceramic floors. If there is liquid on the floor that we don't see and we walk on it, we are sure to fall and can seriously hurt ourselves like it happened to me a few times. I have often noticed that the trends are often not functional and safe sadly. But in the other hand what I like is your show. Thank you.

Putting in a brand new kitchen! Currently in Porcelain (white). When it is done, I will be getting it sprayed. The HUGE larder unit in anthacite grey, the other outer units (drinks run, range-run and under window bench) in moss green. Island in gold, like the wall colour. Yes three-tone! Tiles over the drunks-run and range-run are gold, floor tiles anthacite grey (gold and anthracite grout, respectively). Oh, and the final colour is dark green velvet for the island stools, cushions for the bench and blinds! I wishI could send you photos lol

My thought on wood beads is a different take. We are a family of ADHD, and sometimes it's hard to give someone due attention in a conversation without a fidget. But most fidgets are tacky plastic toy contraptions that I just don't want in my living room. Keep that in the kid space please! If I was in a sitting room having a chat with my husband or a friend and a strand of wood beads was there, boom, natural materials that are tactile with a little bit of movement but not like a bowl full of loose beads that are going to end up scattered everywhere. I don't think it's for everyone, but for me something like that fills a real need without looking like a kid room. I'm not going to play with someone else's decor in their space, but looking for ways of meeting a fidget need in mine, and something like a wooden bead really works.

The house I'm in has a white kitchen. I don't hate it, but it IS very basic and the cabinets look grubby SO quick. TBH I've always wanted a kitchen with sunny, almost buttercup-colored cabinetry, or pale wood 8) For trends I really don't stand...I have a limited patience for open-concept. You put me in a house that's just a field of uninterrupted space with furniture dotted around and I feel like I'm in a showroom or warehouse. I like it cozy!

I love white cabinets. Put in white cabinets into a 1870’s kitchen in Chicago when the building was 100 years old. Next house just refinished 1950’s solid birch cabinets. Would never have painted them. Next put white cabinets into 1993 Phoenix home that had horrid white washed cabinets. Then in a mid 2000’s I had ugly generic oak painted white. Also loved them. Never a cleaning problem. All cabinets get dirty but happy to actually see where the dirt is trying to hide. Also love light or white countertops. And now?? I’m renting an apartment with super ugly brown cabinets with bad spotted granite. Hope to get a place of my own again and go back to white. Also in one white kitchen I had a fabulous giant bright yellow sink and original pine floors. Miss all of it! Thanks for the great video.

I love a blank pallet on walls, floors and even sofa and chairs. Then it's easy to change decor styles and colors throughout the years. That's why I choose my white subway tile and white grout for the back splash on my kitchen 12yrs ago. Still love it. Changed decor style, but was able to do that without a kitchen remodel. The only decor I can't stand is when a home is decorated in a style in which the home is not geographically located. Like southwestern dessert in Wisconsin, or nautical on the plains in Oklahoma. I have chuckled all the way through this one :) I am done with words on walls. A close second is big sayings framed and perched on shelves. I know where my kitchen pantry is, and don't need directions to my laundry, washroom, or the lake. Pithy one-liners and bawdy jokes are better on t-shirts. Ok, a newborn's name in blocks is cute in a nursery, but reading your mind all over the house is too much. Put thoughts, blessings, lists, poems, lyrics and directions on the fridge with a magnet, you can change that frequently, but why emblazon that stuff on walls? Beats me.

Agree, agree, 100%, big wooden beads, I talk to myself out loud, "why?...why?"...what are those beads for?...mystery, I do love a white kitchen, always had one and always will, soft light White Wisp form BM on the walls, marble backsplash and black granite countertop, sorry, love white kitchens, they are timeless, only one open shelf away from the stove, love it, also love white subway tiles, never had them but I do like them, one thing I see a lot, the microwave over the stove, well, my husband is like me, a bit of a clean freak and we bought a hood that has 4 speeds and the fumes and vapor go out to the street, the thing was very expensive, it makes a bit of a noise when it's on the 3 and 4 velocity but let me tell you, it pays of, no smoke and no smells, those microwaves over the stove are very nice ( we can't see mine , it's only a very thin stainless steel strip with 3 lights and of course: a remote control ), I do like those over the stove but were does the hot air and food smell goes?...I am glad that gray is over or almost over, it's a bit sad and a grey floor, oh no, no., love wood...great video as always but those beads, yikes....hugs, kisses to the pups.

Onyx counter top girl here: The color of the onyx is wisps of gray in various shades, spring green on a creamy base in kitchen & bath. My gray tone appliances pull the countertop gray. White under cabs and those bugaboo open shelves, but you have shown me some concept ceiling to countertop closed hutches. Ceramic tile with faint gray wisps for essential areas, light gray carpet on Sharkfin walls, cottage white deep baseboards, ceiling and cabinetry with brushed nickel trim. Appropriate yellow walls kitchen & bedroom. Slice of amethyst mural covering 3 plain ugly white sliding doors hiding the laundry & water heater in lovely shades of violet, purple, dusky rose. A quilt has purple patches. Sunflower theme in white candles, chest, florals pulls wall yellow. Dull green but color works couch. Modern art in fabric, canvas & kitchen curtains in yellow, gray and white. Hanging lamp above sink in geometric patterns of gray & yellow. Sink is single oversized ( but not farm sized) bowl in resin, deep slate color. Klimt 'The Kiss' in the entryway. My Jungalo lamps went out of style immediately but everyone and I love the textured look and light in their off beat 3LED 6 inch long bulb! Dog needs out! 👵🏻😘

I wholeheartedly agree on open shelving in the kitchen. Looks cool in stylized photos, but I had a friend who did it around 20 years ago (she was way ahead of the trend) and all I could think was that if she went a couple of days without using her dishes, they would start accumulating dust and then she'd have to wash said dishes prior to use. Who needs that extra work?! I second your feelings on the wooden beads, and would add the huge wooden links.

Tackiness aside, it’s like a subliminal boast, directed at your visitors. “I’m so BLESSED….look at everything I have…..”. “All of this has been bestowed upon me by God, because clearly I’m a great person!”. I do not like the lanterns that seem to be popular or any holiday type lights or novelty solar lights that people decorate with all year. Postmodern, I just can’t. It is very rare that anyone can pull this design style off. Most of the time it just looks cheap to me. My sister has an all white kitchen and she wants to add a tile backsplash. I’m trying to persuade her to do soft green zellige tile and add some wood accents.

My master bathroom has minimal natural light (two clerestory windows) so I went with light colored reflective materials and the large not in fashion mirrors. It’s been great because during the day I can see in there even with the lights off. And when we had a week long blackout, I could turn one one battery operated candle and still be able to see in there at night.

Just subscribed. I like black subway tiles. I dislike when all the wood matches. I buy things that l like. It will all work together because I like it. 🙂

I love a white/cream kitchen! We’re doing a classic Sherwin Williams Alabaster shaker cabinet in our new kitchen, but are bringing in the contrast with countertops, backsplash, and a dark island (choosing that paint color now). As a graphic designer, I easily tire of decor and bold colors over time. A cream base in my kitchen gives me the option to switch things up every once in a while. I also think it looks fantastic with our old fashioned natural oak floors. 🤍 Thanks, Garrett! Love your videos. So much better than the consumerism-focused interior channels out there.

I also hate floating counter tops and even worse, the floating toilets. I feel that anytime those will fall apart. Open showers, I experienced that in Europe back in 2007 and I hated it… everything gets wet, then after shower you need to dry all the mess outside the shower. Not sure how this trend got popular in the American continent.

Garrett - I'm subscribed and loving it! Love your take on design. Would really like to know where you went to school. I am in the middle of a career change into design and think your perspective on design is great! Painted antiques only if they are trashed and worth nothing should paint be applied!!!!

The beads may have been a Buddhist monk praying beads ( an equivalent to a rosary by the catholic faith) some influencer saw while visiting somewhere in Asia and mistakenly thought the beads strands are decoration.

Hello dear Garrett. I subscribed last week and am enjoying your insight and taste. You have a very large practical streak in your outlook (which I love). And OMG! The wooden beads! 🤣 I thought it was such an odd accent from the get go, but your statement about them, decor for the sake of decor, made me go hmmm...am I guilty of that? I will look at my home with that in mind and see if I can eliminate some tshotchkes. Much success to you Garrett. You won my heart with the drafts in the shower statement.

Thank you Garrett. I have zero design ability and you have saved me from some seriously overwhelmed and frustrated situations as I try to figure out how to remodel my first house. I saw so many things I hated when we bought it but it but didn’t know what to do about them, (i.e. gray wood floors with daaaaaark gray walls/white trim throughout, AND the SAME gray exterior🤦♀️😵💫). I still feel ill equipped to bring this house to its full potential, but you have definitely helped boost my confidence and given me ideas for where to even start.

Maybe I could like having one or two open shelves max, but not cluttered. We live in Arizona and I dust every other day! I also don’t care for free-standing tubs, although they are the trend. Thank you, Garrett! You have the most upscale and luxurious design! I will add: I do not care for ship lap! Ugh! 😂

Yes, I am so tired of gray everything! I have a friend with a beautiful new home but every room is gray and white, no pops of color anywhere. I love traditional furniture and yes color! I had an all white kitchen but a few years ago I painted the lower cabinets a Sherwin Williams color Raindrop, it looks awesome 😎 everyone that comes to my home loves it. I even had a repairman once that wanted to take pictures to send to his wife because he wanted to copy it at their home.

I bought my place with grey wood floors and I can't stand it. Hopefully once I've paid off my massive emergency vet bill debt I can save up or use some home equity to do it. I've added warm woods and natural materials everywhere to really make the place feel more cozy.

Another trend I do not understand is a pot filler over the stove - you still have a hot pot to empty after so why all the extra expense for the easy part? Just recently subscribed to your channel and love your style both personally and creatively

I especially agree with all-gray rooms being dated, and if that includes gray wood floors it looks hopeless! I also really dislike raised bathroom basins, which look cumbersome to use and hostile to short people (that would be me). More surfaces to clean, too, and that will never do.

I actually just built a house and put in raised sinks in the bathrooms. I have been pleasantly surprised to find that the countertops actually stay cleaner. I have three kids and it’s so much cleaner.

I subscribed to your videos awhile back but first time commenting - LOVE your content. Have to say a defense for the beads: my hubby and I love something we can fidget with while sitting on the sofa and the beads are great for that! I found some for $14 at Hobby Lobby and, a plus, my kids love playing with them. Already looking forward to your next video! 😊

We have a wood kitchen with big white tile floor that come with our new house. It's badly designed. I mean bad. The big dbl door pantry covers a window!!!! The wood wasn't looked after and so we plan to update. We love white kitchens but with so much light (MCM style house) even with the 2nd window covered up. we wonder if it will be to bright?
