Thanks to our sponsor, Take Me to Japan! Check them out if you’re interested in visiting Japan and learning Japanese! :D They have a few quick tips for those of you looking into moving here, just visiting, or learning the language: 1. Language school is one of the best ways to come to Japan; the wonderful staff and people at the school will provide a great support network for you, so you are not alone on your journey. 2. There are over 500 language schools in Japan. Every school has a different atmosphere. Some are really casual, helping you learn Japanese without feeling like you’re studying. Others are more serious with students studying towards proficiency tests. Take Me To Japan will help you choose and apply to the one that suits your needs, and they’ll even help with visas and finding accommodation. 3. Learning Japanese will help you experience Japan more fully, and will expand your career opportunities to things other than teaching your native language. 4. There is no age or education limit; whether you are 14, in your 20s, or in your 50s, you are welcome to join. Even if you know zero Japanese. 5. You can come for as short as one week to up to 2 years or more. There are a variety of courses where you can do everything from enjoy a memorable trip learning conversational Japanese, try fun cultural activities, or study hard toward getting into a Japanese university or finding a job in Japan. There are many jobs open to foreigners once you’re living in Japan, and it’s much easier to apply for them if you’re living here rather than from your home country. 6. You will meet people from all around the world, with many different backgrounds (students, professors, business owners, etc.). 7. All other information is on the website, so please read the FAQ and send an inquiry there! -> www.takemetojapan.com

One time a kid crawled under the bathroom stall door and I screamed " omg! get the fuck out!" out of pure shock and first instinct, and guess what? Dads just don't know how to act in public honestly, white dads in particular. I worked in a candy store after high school and a little boy came in and broke a 40 dollar novelty mug. His dad blamed us for "putting it too close to the edge of the shelf" and walked out refusing to pay for it. Any mom would have have apologized profusely and immediately offered to pay. I swear it's like they never leave the house with their children.

It's so funny, I always heard Aussies complain about bathroom doors in America. It wasn't until I moved to Thailand that I realized how right they were - and how basically EVERY OTHER CIVILIZED PLACE IN THE WORLD has bathroom doors that are full doors without visible space along the sides. Why, America? Why??!

Jessica Nurack I wonder the same thing! I have a horror story. I walked into a two stall bathroom and one stall was occupied so I went into the bigger one. It smelled unbearably of vinegar. I was uncomfortable and kept watching the open bottom of the stall. Then. THEN! All of a sudden her legs left her pants and disappeared.. My heart dropped. I looked at the gap at the top expecting some crazy woman to be staring at me. Or the ring girl.. But no. Phew. Thank God. =( I hate our public bathrooms. Always had.

You apparently get a lot of the functionality by changing the seat. Amazon has such seats ranging from about $40 on up into the hundreds, though for anything heated or automated, you will likely also need to add a GFI electricaal outlet. The whole throne s are available from from $700 into the thousands.

I've been living in the US for almost my entire life, before I was even enrolled in school, and attending a Civics class that focuses on US laws and government. Just two thing : politeness and humility Most american tourists in my country are loud, rude, dress very revealingly, love to smack people's shoulder unnoticed, make rude gestures for slight mistake in our part, and often get annoyed when the other party don't speak english. They tip us, yes. But we'd rather be treated politely than some petty cash. Korean and japanese tourists on the other hand, are super polite. They never litter, never raise their voice, are very patient while waiting for order, never demand too excessively, and never get annoyed for the mistake on our part (maybe they do, they just don't show it), and always try to follow local rules. They don't tip. Which doesn't matter because their attitude more than make up for it

satria amiluhur Some Americans are very polite. Every time my late husband and I travelled ( always on our own, not cruises) we felt it extremely important to leave a good impression. We always took time to study the language and learn customs. We tried to always be polite and kind everywhere and thanked people with letters when we returned home. We also wrote to inns and places we stayed to thank the staff. We smiled and greeted people. Neither of us would have ever thought to casually touch anyone, whether in Thailand or Italy. I am sure we made mistakes, but we tried to be our very best selves, knowing that some American travelers are not pleasant. Please do not think badly of everyone.

tbh restaurant call buttons would probably get abused by people in America. The average American customer is demanding, rude, and shameless. They'd take a call button as an invitation to act like the restaurant revolves around them. Like, at a lot of grocery stores in the US (including the one I work at) the cashier will bag everything for you and you can just stand there barking orders whereas in Japan there's a separate bagging area for customers to take their stuff and bag it themselves. The customer culture is so much different.

Umm no. Places like Applebee’s and chili’s and some other ones have tablets that act as a call button and you can request a drink refill or just pay your bill there on the tablet and you leave. At least around my way in NJ. I don’t see anyone going crazy calling their waiter/waitress or abusing the damn thing.

#3: I emigrated to the US from the UK and I found the massive gaps in the bathroom stalls to be a pretty big culture shock and hard to get used to. I still don't like it! We have the same kind of stalls in the UK but they manage to put them together without leaving enough space for kids to climb in. Which... has happened to me too.... I remember one time I peed in a loo at a tourist site in the US where the stall sides were so high off the ground you could literally have seen my butt from the entrance. Didn't realise until I sat down and looked under. FORTUNATELY there was nobody else in the bathroom that time!

There's actually more than those types in America. We've got natural cat litters in pellet form (paper or pine) natural clumping cat liters (made of walnuts or corn) the ball type that's ingredients are mostly chemical as well as the clumping clay litters. Each of those usual has several different brands and a few different options like scented or not scented. Clumping clay is cheapest (but it's actually made out of rare clay so that could change one day) and generally stocked more places but if you care about your cats health or litter box habits you quickly find a location that sells the other types. Kroger or Tractor Supply stock a good smattering of them or go to a dedicated pet store like Petsmart which will generally have a larger stock of litters on hand than other locations that only have one or half a shelf dedicated to feline defication.

einfach nur Leo Yeah, I don't see how they don't see the creepiness of that. I'm an American and hated using the bathrooms at school because of this. Especially as a woman and during that time of the month, the last damn thing I want is to feel like I'm being watched. I have honestly just sat there waiting for the person at the sink placed RIGHT in front of the stalls to move before I continue. I don't know if the girls at my schools are perverts or what but it's not appreciated.

Jesus Christ Japan and next to zero public waste despite having a lot of different types of vending machines in more quantity. People who make informative Japanese videos talk about this because foreigners usually just toss things out onto the streets or train stations (New York City subways for example). In Japan it is publicallt shammed. It is less of an overall insensitive stereotype and just how the two nations are. To every other country it is "the loud Americans", German bloggers from the U.S. touch up on this too.
