About these last six months: I am sorry about that. The 30 Day Jazz-Blues Piano Challenge was a fun project, but damn, I think I managed to burn myself out in the process. About this lesson: In this video, I ran through all the important concepts I like to work on every day. - Tuning in with my emotions and let it color all the exercises that I am planning to do that day. - Playing scale exercises in the most musical way possible. - Practicing improvisation to get comfortable with the scale. - Working on smooth integration of Jazz and Blues licks - Working on my left-hand dexterity - Practicing left-hand patterns - Practicing tricky concepts like polyrhythm, displacement, contrary motion - Working on my style by letting my hands play what they want to play. I am practicing to be more interested in what comes natural to me. (I am crazy about jazz piano, but if my hands constantly play something else these days, I need to pay attention and see where it leads me:)) What are you working on right now? Where do you need more help? Where shall we go from here? Just let me know.

Hi, amazing to see you back! I´m just starting out with blues and jazz improvisation and would really appreciate another video on some ways for the left hand to be more interesting in the 12 bar blues pattern. Keep up the great work, your videos help me tremendously getting started

Hey David, I've been listening to this youtube station a bit lately: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKbHlXqroZWid8U. I'd love to learn how to improvise a similar sound but would have no idea where to start. Would really appreciate it if you could make a lesson with rhythm exercises and chord progression that create the kind of ambience in the video.

Hey David, I’m working on your jazz scales and 10 (12) step jazz tutorial, getting better all the time and loving the practice that allows me to experiment a little bit. I had the sheet music for those and the sheet for this would help me, no way I could learn it from the vid.! I even improvise a little bit, not great but it makes me happy! struggle with chord progressions, base lines for the left, can’t seem to grasp it, I think it will just ‘click’ in a minute…but thank you so much for making practice a joy to my ears…xx

Thanks, David. Last year, I paid for 6 month program...no complaints, just didn't have time to focus. I consider this practice routine & your other KZbin vids more than worth the price. I play/practice every day for one hour & your lessons have helped me to play in the dark without seeing the keys. I am NOT an advanced jazz pianist, but pushing myself out of my comfort zone helps me to become more skilled. Awesome!

Wow David! Best piano lesson on KZbin!! And I've tried a lot and lost interest since they are all so 'one-dimensional'! A perfect lesson in my opinion! Each section has a purpose, with all leading to developing well-rounded musicianship! Beautiful and interesting to listen to... Incredible to play! Gradually developing in complexity! A perfect recipe to create your own music!! My favorite parts are 'left hand activation' and 'contrary motion'! I've been working on this every day for 4 weeks (more often if I have the house to myself). My other favorite of yours is 'Silent Night from Happy to sad'. My suggestion: What would a 'marriage' of these two look like? I'm not sure, ... maybe the 'Silent Night' improvisation IS this?

C minor blues scale, and then it moves to C natural minor :)
@PIANOSTYLE1003 жыл бұрын
@@DavidMagyelPiano Just a few thoughts.Multiple ways to remember the relative minor scale. I was doing all 3 main minor scales in C. I noticed that there is a a unique pattern. Obvious with C natural minor. SKIPPING SPACE HERE C D Eb F G Ab Bb C Noticed that the first 6 notes had a unique pattern 1 2 b3. There is only one more unique note (Bb) The b7(flat7) I think that's an amazing thing. Of course the parent scale of Cm is Eb Maj Scale. But as.I looked at the (above) F G Ab. I saw the first 3 notes of the F natural minor. F G Ab . from the parent scale scale above (Ab).It does work best with the simple scales with little # s or flats.

I really enjoy this jam, but exercise 5 is breaking my brain. I can't reconcile what I'm hearing with what I'm seeing. In the last bar it sounds like there is a C5-D5-C5 over the top of the melody in the last beat or two. Please someone tell me they hear it too. Otherwise what explains this acoustical illusion?!
