Jeff Buckley was a talent gone way too soon but the music and life he did give the world will never be forgotten. What a gem

After hearing tracks from 'Grace' and being blown AWAY by it in 1994, it took me two years to realise Jeff was not just the most incredibly gifted singer, he was also the bloody main guitarist!!! WHAT?!!

The crazy thing is that the playing on that album is only one style he even played. He could play SRV/Hendrix type of blues stuff, and had a long list of Led Zeppelin songs he could do. I was friends with someone who got to see Buckley playing nearly every week, for months at a time in the 90’s. A lot of shows at the Sin-E club, mainly by himself, but with a band as well. I think he developed a really cool way of playing live, that got very heavy, yet with clean tones, and very clean playing, even at the most distorted. He finally had a spotlight, snd folks who were really wanting to capture “his” sound. I think he could’ve used someone to reign him in, or just decide on how he was going to do certain songs, that were holding up those sessions. He was making so much music in such a small span of time in the last couple years of his life.

Funny I just saw a Tom Buckovac video the other day where an Alesis quadraverb like Jeff used for verb (at least live) was featured and I had and loved mine in the late 90’s/early 2000’s and started thinking of getting another. This thing sounds great though and fits on a pedalboard which is nice….

I’m partial to “What Will I Say?”, which the live version, from a German broadcast at Südbahnoff in Frankfurt, just has one of his best non-solo, leads. His voice whaling away, as if he’s crying out to his own father, though the song was written by a friend of his.

Decent plate reverb will get you there tbh! Shimmer reverb is tricky to do well, and this pedal does it really well and i'm a big fan of that. My advice would be to try out a few and see what you like :-)
