The paper getting stringy was a combination of both the things you said. Water-based ink will always eat through paper because of the water, and the tips of those markers wouldn't exactly help at all. Also, if you were to use chameleon pens in the long run, I would probably buy a different brand of alcohol-based marker (like copics, promarkers, etc.) and then some colorless blender or rubbing alcohol, since what the chameleon markers are are a alcohol-based marker with a pigment end and a basic clear alcohol end. And really since in that set it comes out to about $4.50 per marker, they're pretty well priced.

Water-based markers are more likely to eat at the paper because paper is water soluble. A better comparison might be cheap alcohol based markers like Spectrum Noir or Art Alternatives. Also, you can touch the tips of the colored markers for a cool color gradient effect. :)

Thank you 😘!! Since the Chameleon pens work by dipping ink into a colourless solvent, I figured it must possible to do the same by dipping felt tip markers into water. Then I started thinking of all the things that can be used to hold water and my first idea was a sponge or paper towel. Then I though of a cucumber since that contains 90% water anyway and it worked 😝

Copic. From someone who is familiar with Markers and has been an artist for years i can tell you Chameleon is a gimic. You can make copic markers "Chameleon" simply by putting your colorless blender to the top of the marker and turning it upside down how you do with the chameleon. Or the more simple method is dipping the tip in rubbling alcohol. Because that's basically what's in the blender and the blending part of the chameleon. Alcohol.

Water based markers "eat" up paper which means you cannot do layers of any advanced art methods. Alcohol based markers doesn't "eat" up the paper even after several layers, the only down side to alcohol based pens is the they are expensive or if they have a brush tip, the tip will get ruined if not properly used.

Thanks for the tip!! I was actually quite bad with Copic markers and discovered that alcohol markers also have a limit to how many times you can layer the ink. Even though they don't damage the paper surface, the ink will eventually start to "pool" and create sharp line that can't be blended away

You can also press the tips of 2 different colored markers together to get a pretty two colored ombre. My sons and I do this all the time and it works beautifully 😊

I do this all the time and it's really fun: Connect two highlighters (put the darker one on top of the lighter one when having them transfer) and only put them together for a few seconds. The gradient lasts a long time and it's beautiful. I've been doing this since before all if these ombre markers and stuff came out.
