Fashion can be very regional. I'm 7th gen. Texan and not a cowboy. Most Texans are not cowboys but most Texans have a pair of cowboy boots if not multiple. Trust me when I say girls down here love them. There are over 14 million females in this state so I'd say owning a pair is to your benefit.

In Texas cowboy boots are popular. My boots get many compliments from women. When I travel to Asia wearing my Stetson and cowboy boots they always get compliments. It's almost what Asians expect Americans to wear.

Cut the cowboy boots a break. Worn correctly - UNDER the pants - they can be hard to distinguish from Chelseas by any but the most attentive shoe critic. Both Chelseas and cowboy boots are a little affected. It's just a choice -- do I want an affectation from London or Lubbock? Great video, as always.

Well built, quality made shoes with holes in the soles can be resoled a lot of the time (ie. Goodyear welted). Don’t throw them out. Leather uppers can be cleaned and conditioned. You’d be surprised how much life you can put back into a well made shoe.

To be fair you can actually get away with cowboy boots pretty easily in even some of trendiest spots in Austin, Dallas, etc. Still a general NO for 99% of the population but another good reminder that fashion is regional.

I live in Arlington so cowboy boots are in every closet. One thing you mentioned was the big belt buckle. Those buckles, if real are trophies won in rodeo events. Wearing one purchased at a store is like wearing a service jacket with medals even though you never served.

I've lived across the southern US and so many women love cowboy boots on men if they are worn with the right pair of bootcut jeans. That way it does not pull attention away from the overall look. But if you're wearing jorts or skinny jeans... absolutely not.

Live in Texas. A pair of cowboy boots is pretty much standard issue. They don't get much use but as a guy here. you've got to have a pair in your closet.

They're particularly common/acceptable in certain situations: country western bars, dance halls, rodeos, horseback riding. The big problem was that over half the examples Ashley showed were clearly *wearing them wrong* (e.g. with shorts, with jeans tucked into the boots, or with jeans that were too skinny to accommodate the boots). That's the equivalent of me insisting that boxer briefs are unfashionable, then showing a bunch of photos of guys wearing them on their heads.

So I’m from Texas and I’d half to disagree with the cowboy boot part. I’m not a big country guy but cowboy boots are a staple here and they literally go with anything here. From casual grocery shopping to formal occasions, cowboy boots are quite versatile, in Texas at least. What you say makes more sense up north but not here.

I rocked cowboy boots in Chicago with dark jeans and a black Henley and all the girls at flight club loved it . I think you are spot on 90% of the time but cowboy boots with proper jeans over them look great

Of course, Cowboy Boots are popular in Texas and other Western states. I read some of the top writers on men's fashion and most of them say that Cowboy Boots are in style. I have met a lot of East Coast women who compliment my boots. So I guess Cowboy Boots are a matter of personal preference.

I think you have to pull off the rugged but classy look that come with the boots to truly rock them. But, honestly, if you wear them under your trousers, you can't tell they are western boots if they don't have an overtly western design on the upper.

I agree with you except on one thing: Some cowboy boots can look great such as a pair of ropers that have rounded toes or not so pointy toes. Plain black leather ones or oil tanned, but with no fancy tooling or stitching-just smooth. Also, please add: No flip-flops with long pants or jeans-especially not baggy jeans. No oversized Velcro fisherman sandals. No ugly brown hiking sneakers.

Western boots are regional footwear. They are okay in most of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada outside of Vegas. They look off in California's coastal cities and their suburbs. They are totally out of place in a city like Boston or Hartford. Do not wear them with pants tucked into them. People will think you have inappropriate relations with sheep or goats. Flip-flops, rubber slides, or any plastic shoe worn without socks are shower shoes. You left off winklepickers.

I live in Kentucky and although I don't wear them, many people do (we are the horse capital of the world you know.) Shoes aren't the shape of people's feet, which is a problem in general, but the square toed dress shoes often are better fitting than the pointed style, particularly for men with a wide front of their foot. Your hate of the square toe is very unfortunate, because for some men these fit much better than the pointed style.
