Having lived with tinnitus for a good few years now, I tend to fall asleep to really mellow music, rain/wind sounds, or asmr videos. Makes it so much easier on those nights that I have trouble sleeping. Oh, and don't worry too much about it long term. You'll be surprised in a year or so how little you notice it. Keep strong! Your music is so definitely worth it.

If you still have trouble falling asleep, I would recommend playing rain and thunder sounds, or beach waves. It helps me fall asleep.

Chronic 'ringing in the ears' often caused by sudden loud noise, but it can be caused by a bunch of other things as well.

At first I was like "Fuck no! Not this guy, not Tinitus for Gavin!" Now... I'm really relieved. It would have been a pain, as well as a litteral loss to the world if your condition had made it impossible for you to do what you love. I can thank you for ever having experienced Dragon Age as I found 'Age of the Dragon' here and decided to play the games. Thank you for all you have given us over the years, and please, please don't ever stop.

I grew up with tinnitus, it wasn't fun. What really annoyed me was that no-one listened to me when I tried to tell them about the ringing in my ears(which was deafeningly loud at times). I still have it now, but it's thankfully not as bad. You have my sympathy Gav.

As for sleeping, try having a fan going in the back ground. Just a small one to generate some white noise. That way it isn't dead quite.

Just subbed to you today, your songs are awesome. I've been singing Nord Mead all day to myself "Chug'a mug'a mead an'another mug'a mead" That part is a bitch! I also suffer from tinnitus and was basically told by a doctor "Nothing we can do so get on with it" so I know how that feels. I find it good to have a small water fountain next to my bed when I sleep or a fan in the room like a comment below me says, it really helps a lot but try your best to just ignore it or you'll get insomnia.

Ireland and hangovers go together like peanut butter and jelly. Hang in there Gavin! Tinnitus is annoying, I have it as well. You do get used to it, and sometimes it's like you don't even notice it. But when you do, it's annoying as hell! That's why I listen to music and play video games as much as I can! Other noise makes the ringing seemingly stop. Big fan of your music, and an even bigger fan now that I know you're Irish!

I also have a tinnitus that will not go away, I know how you feel. It's been some years now when you have posted this and I bet you can manage living with the ringing sound in your head. It's the same for me, hardest part is when I try to sleep and the room is quiet. I found "my solution" in a small electric heater which can also blow without heating. Saves money for the power and sweat in the night. :) I'm also addicted to music so I had to try some heaters to find out which one sounds best for me (yes, they sound different!) and then bought ten pieces of the same product cause they won't last forever. :) It has a very agreeable sound and I guess I would still use it for sleeping even if my tinnitus was blown away from one day to the other. Maybe someone reads this and finds a little help in my words.

I know how you mean with the ringing, I've had Tinnitus since I was REALLY young, and really, the only time I actually notice it is when things are just dead quiet, and I can't stand when that's happening because it's just at it's loudest when no sounds are being made, which is one of the reasons I'm buying your albums, because if I'm gonna listen to something, I may as well listen to something good and your music is just fantastic, Gav, thank you for all your hard work, and I hope all the best.

Hey Gav, I know this video is old, hope you're doing better now. I've read that tinnitus can be caused by stress / worry / anxiety or even excessive jaw tension. If you're stressed out, try to calm down, maybe with some breathing exercises, meditation or whatever works for you. It goes without saying but getting enough sleep is important too I think. Hope this helps, all the best!

A persistent ringing noise in the ear or ears. There are a lot of causes for it. It isn't super serious but it can affect a person's sense of hearing because it's heard all the time. It can manifest if all kinds of noises in all kinds of pitches. I'd say google it because my description is pretty fractured. But that's the gist of it.

Congratulations on the 10mil views - you deserve it! I've had tinnitus since I was 10. I don't like working in quiet spaces because then I really do notice it and it stops me from focusing (made school exams even more annoying than normal) and being around buzzing machinery (like computers) makes it worse. I usually have my MP3 player with me because listening to music helps to tune out the ringing sound. I do hear sudden, painfuly sharp sounds occasionally, but that's gradually happening less.

I've had tinnitus since I was a kid. I'm really used to it of course. I sometimes notice it when it is very quiet, but I find the sound almost comforting now. As a fellow tinnitus...person, I am glad to hear you are habituating to it, it was the same to me. My tinnitus started around the same time yours did too, actually (in november), and the first week was just hell, but it's gotten much better. Now it usually takes 10-20 minutes for me to fall asleep, down from the 3-4 hours of the first night.

I've had tinnitus for years mate - Too long standing too close to a bass amp probably - but I've been able to subconsciously tune it out. Heh, sitting typing this now I can notice it again but that's because I'm thinking about it. Trying to get to sleep used to be the worst but now I make sure I've got a ticking clock in the room and my brain can focus on that instead of the whizzing in my ear. Keep going Gav. :)

Hey Gavin, not sure if you "need" absolute silence when you are trying to sleep, but I use a fan to generate background noise for me (as I hate silence) so a minor amount of background noise might help you tune out the ringing from Tinnitus. I have tinnitus. As a kid I had chronic ear infections. A result was doctors putting in over 11 sets of Tubes into my Ear Drum. A lot of scar tissue is there. It actually resulted in a 20% hearing loss as tested by an audiologist. But a side effect was I could hear ultrasonic noises like dog whistles. I do hear ringing a lot though. And I found out actually that Fluticasone Propionate which clears out your sinuses helps with clearing out your ears if used enough.
