10 MINIMALIST WARDROBE ESSENTIALS YOU NEED TO BUILD A BASIC CAPSULE WARDROBE | Spring/Summer Edition

A capsule wardrobe is great for making it easier to get dressed in the morning. They are also a fabulous idea for summer holiday outfits or what to pack when you go away so that you don’t take too many clothes that you don’t wear. Here are my tips and tricks for creating a capsule wardrobe and the 10 essential clothing items you need to create the perfect minimalist wardrobe this spring/summer.
10 ITEMS FOR YOUR MINIMALIST CAPSULE WARDROBE
1 Tank top/bodysuit
2 Cotton t-shirt
3 Oversized shirt (cotton or linen)
4 Pair of trousers/jeans/leggings or shorts
5 Skirt - mini, midi or maxi
6 Versatile dress
7 Blazer (or denim jacket/leather jacket)
8 Trench Coat
9 Sandals (heeled or flat)
10 Trainers (or loafers etc, depending on the purpose of your capsule wardrobe)
MY 10 PIECE CAPSULE WARDROBE TIPS
1. For each item pick a cut/style that works for your lifestyle and your wardrobe. For example a maxi dress may be more versatile and everyday appropriate than a mini dress for you, or you may prefer shorts over jeans/trousers.
2. You can create a capsule wardrobe from within your wardrobe for a number of occasions from a ‘holiday capsule wardrobe’ to a ‘workwear capsule wardrobe’
3. Choose a colour palette for your capsule wardrobe. This could be neutrals, pastels or bright colours. Try to pick no more than three colour tones that compliment each other.
4. Think of choosing items that are suitable for being dressed up and dressed down so you can rewear these items in your capsule wardrobe more times.
5. Try to avoid too many prints. Prints may make it harder to style your 10 items together and maximise different looks from your wardrobe; also a print is more noticable if worn everyday over a plain garment.
6. Have fun with it! Getting dressed isn’t meant to be serious. Don’t stress about your capsule wardrobe the fun here is that you get to experiment with it 😊
7. And, don’t forget that you can apply my ‘3 C Styling rule’ and consider cut, colour and composition for items you are adding to your minimalist capsule wardrobe.

I have been waiting for this series of ‘10s’; ten items, ten ways to wear etc. I really took on board what you said about styling for occasions such as ten work wear pieces, ten casual, ten party etc. It’s amazing how many pieces feature in every occasion & it’s a great way to work out if something a bit more pricey will be worth the money per wear. i live for neutral colors like these! After my baby is born I'm allowing myself to take a good look at everything I own and re-do a lot of my basics. because for some reason I keep thinking I have enough basics, and keep buying stuff that will combine nicely with basics, but then dont actually have decent basics to combine with... so my wardrobe is just a lot of stuff that doesn't really match... frustrating! The big dream is to open up my wardrobe and its all whites, beiges and blacks!

I was totally the same! Always thinking that I’ve got lots of t-shirts and tanks in my drawers and then going to find them and having nothing! You can’t beat a good basic :) It was nice to challenge myself to create 10 outfits from these looks and to layer more so I can’t wait to share next weeks video. That is what my wardrobe is slowly turning into 🙊🙊 with a tiny dose of blue denim! Xx
