I'm not a fan of Periphery's music (It's too "busy" for me), but I could listen to Nolly & Misha talk all day long. The amount of knowledge those two pass on to us, the humble KZbin audience is incredible. Both of them are like University Professors in terms of knowledge, but come across as being totally chilled out, humble and most importantly, PASSIONATE! and are both fantastic at getting their point across. Another fantastic video. Thank you!

The important thing they do is explain "why" to do something. Not just "what" to do. The thought process is where the real learning can be had

Do you send the dry tracks to your parallel comp bus? or the effected tracks?

Holy FUCK those are really good sounding raw drums especially considering they're live.

I don´t like and use the "smash" mode so much (sounds distorded and undefined to me) but the "grab" mode sounds in your face! Clear and punchy! Best compressor to me so far.

I’m intrigued to know how you have grouped the tracks with a section that says Kick, Snare etc. How do you do that?
@AnteroJokinen5 жыл бұрын
That's just a basic track stack in Logic. You can do one by selecting multiple tracks, right click and create a track stack. Or use a shortcut shift+cmd+D

The big question is... is the interface resizable? Looks painfully small on your particular setup. Sounds great thought.

What about the drum-sub? the whole kit must have a little compression all together, right? Thanks for sharing.
@AdamTrain5 жыл бұрын
Amir Poorhafezi I could be wrong in this instance but Nolly doesn't typically do compression on the drum bus itself. Instead, he'll add an SSL G-comp (Slate FG-Grey) to the master bus, set with a fast attack, gain staged to react primarily to the snare

Amazing plugin and I will definitely be getting it soon. Couple of observations: 1. "10 minute drum mix" is misleading as you pre-gated and EQ'd these drums prior to the video. 2. I think this would sound a bit better with some thick reverb on the shells. It needs some mud and warmth added back in after all of that hyping, and the reverb would also help glue the kit back together

"1. "10 minute drum mix" is misleading as you pre-gated and EQ'd these drums prior to the video" Are you 100% sure about that ? That's exactly what i was hesitating about, since this static drum mix sound so amazing right away, before any processing (compression ).
@djabthrash5 жыл бұрын
OK got it at 1"34... Missed it at first... I would have loved to hear the pre-EQed, pre-gated tone also.
@jacobsmith18775 жыл бұрын
djabthrash you can see other plugins loaded on different channels as well throughout the video. It would have made sense to call the video "10 minute drum compression" instead
