Hello ! Very useful, thank you . The challenge I am facing right now is social dancing. I take regular lessons (6 days / week / 1 hour each, for 3 months), cuban style , and when I'm on the dance floor on social, I forget :( or lack of imagination to put all the pieces together. Any suggestions ?
@thedancedojo Жыл бұрын
My question for you is what are you practicing 6days/week? If you can't remember anything when you go social dancing my guess is the issue is in what and how you're practicing. If you want to be a better social dancer you have to practice things that help you become better at that: know individual moves, their names, how to combine them, the structure of a song etc. Are you doing that? -robin

Hi Robin, first of all congratulations for your channel which has been very helpful and always full of helpful and professional advices, I would like to ask you if is there a way to be able to dance with any stile of salsa, because I have been before cv19 attending LA classes, but my social are mainly with Latin people who dance Colombian,Cuban, and I end up having less fun than who doesn't. Take classes at all. Also I find difficult dancing slow songs. Plus I have been chatting with more advanced people who enjoy now just festivals no even social..I want to have fun with everyone everywhere anytime, what are your advices thank you in advance.
@thedancedojo4 жыл бұрын
Hey, thank you, and that's a really good question. I think i'll make a video on this! My quick answers: 1) yes you can dance any style of salsa. There are stylistic differences but in general the same principles apply to all styles - you just have to know what they are, and then try dancing those styles to get the feel for them. 2) Advanced dancers may prefer festivals because they can find other more advanced dancers there. It's not necessarily because they don't like socials, but in some communities there are not a lot of motivated dancers, and so if there's advanced dancers who are high-achiever types who love self improvement and growth they often get bored always going to the same places and dancing with the same people who don't value improvement and growth like they do. 3) Being able to have fun with everyone comes down to two things in my opinion, developing your skills so you're always improving, and having a fun and playful attitude - the way you do things is often more important than what you do. Give people your best energy always. Hope that helps for now, I'll likely make a video like I said because this is a topic so many people are interested in. You're not alone! By the way, if you haven't already tried our online course definitely try it free for a week here and pick up some new skills: thedancedojo.com -Robin
@TJ-yr5yd4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your answer Robin, really appreciate, I got in mind other 3 topics that may help you create a video, and me understand more: 1)Before the lockdown in the usual social I was creaving find someone LA and intermediate, because I was a some point not clear on leading beginners, or not patient.. 2)I also loving the music and care a lot about my "esibition" instead than connecting with the partner,selfish would say 3)I would love to learn some tricks, the one that make the dance experience with me fun and different with the surprise effect. I was definitely having problems with timing and I have been working on it. Obviusly I am telling you all the little problems, obviously there are a lot of good things and experience that make this hobby amazing and unique. Love dancing and the people like you that give us the opportunity to grow and understand more. Thank you man. I definitely will use your resources!

@thedancedojo7 ай бұрын
You can do it however you like. The convention when doing shines (dancing solo) on1 in classes is that everyone goes forward on1 (lead's timing). When you dance on2, everyone goes forward on2 (follow's timing). When dancing solo there's no rules, so you can use whatever way works best for your brain. Just know that in classes it will typically be done as mentioned above :) -Robin
