Chris Melling is just a joy to watch and that’s why he’s called The Magician 🎱🎱

His technique, sportsmanship and high IQ problem solving skills make him for me the most enjoyable player to watch. Completely deserves his nickname. Efren and Chris the two magicians represent the top class.

I remember playing Chris Melling in the Shipley & District League individual championship. Possibly early ninety’s. About the quarter finals. Best of five, I broke off and cleaned up. He broke off and cleaned up. I broke off and cleaned up. He broke off and cleaned up. I broke off and didn’t pot. Guess what? He cleaned up 😂🤦🏻♂️ … lost 2-3, lovely lad though. I’m glad he stuck with pool, was a time he tried his hand at snooker and was definitely good enough but his talent has always shone through with 8 ball 🎱

Everyone in English pool plays with Snooker cues
@fatroberto30124 ай бұрын
The cue ball in English pool is smaller and lighter than an American one, so English pool players either use snooker cues or cues with even smaller tips than snooker cues. There has never been any real history of ornamental butts and "high-tec" shafts in the UK.

Personally, I much prefer to watch full runouts. Just cherry picking shots like this is not near as entertaining. Not a slight to Chris in any way, he's absolutely incredible. But being able to watch a full runout after an amazing shot or two (or 3 or 4 in some lol) is just way more enjoyable and satisfying to watch.

No pool player has ever succeeded playing snooker. It is incredibly difficult to adapt to tables where even just grazing the edge of the the inside jaw of a pocket inevitably sets your opponent up with an easy shot. That is the hardest thing to get used to, not the huge table.
@C4rl0s-_-4R4 ай бұрын
@@fatroberto3012 im confused who your are referring to? Melling? Melling plays snooker uk pool american pool and chinese pool. With alternate events from one week to the next. Mark selby started off playing uk 8 ball pool. Became a world champ in 2006. Moved on to snooker and has since been a 4 time world champion at snooker. Any cueist who is at the top of their game can adapt to another cue sport. It just requires a lot of practice and dedication
@jama2114 ай бұрын
@@fatroberto3012 The opposite is also true. Judd Trump got knocked out second round last time he tried pool ;)

NAH, no one batters Ronnie, however when Melling did try his hand at snooker he was very useful, I recall he's had maximum breaks in practice back in the day. The snooker tour is very different, the game is also different, Ronnie could compete at 8 ball but it's got a lot of intricacies that take years to understand, as does snooker and swapping between the two games is not an easy transition. I liken it to comparing darts and archery. I was a (UK) county standard pool player many years ago, could beat professional snooker players, but my snooker was nothing like, max break of 51 (although it was with mostly baulk colours). I love snooker, but 8 ball is just epic in my eyes. These guys these days are outstanding.
