A lot of questions were just clarifications and last question is “what would you have done differently?” You got this!! Prepare a question bank and practice! Good luck!

From statistics, lecturers tend not to fail the students verbal examination. If you are the person who researched and wrote your dissertation, it is very unlikely that you will fail your Viva Voce. The basic purpose of the oral examination is ascertain that you the one who completed the research and dissertation. Good luck!

My external examiner told me that he would have asked me more questions if time had permitted. On a few occasions, I was not given time to explain fully the questions asked. As a preparation, I made sure that I had eye contact with the examiners, and that I smiled and was polite. I was not afraid to ask questions for clarification. I was asked by the chairman if I wanted a break halfway into my viva and I politely declined and said that I was enjoying talking to the experts. After the viva, the chairman told me that I was not nervous. What was there to be nervous about, it was my thesis, and I knew backwards what I had written. Also, a mock viva with my supervisors was most helpful.

Yeah on one of my thesis presentations to the department, I had tons of notes on the PowerPoint notes section. The one problem is that the computer I was using didn’t allow me to use presenter mode where I would see my notes and the audience would see only the slides. Luckily, I prepared a lot, and I remembered most of the points and statistics (because I don’t use words on my slides). It went well, but it could’ve gone better! Ha.
